Nice of U to POP by.
All the workshops from CA are way down south, and us being way up north ...??...
It could be nice to have a little community here, wether it be sketchnights (in a coffeeshop somewhere) or life model sessions.
But I'm not organising anything yet....I want suggestions and also a head count just to see how many we are that dig this stuff.!!
I'll be checking out your "dump", you have good stuff going on !
Where do you smoke? I only know one place " le salon du thé" that has those.
I'd be nice to have more people on here ( maybe everybody thinks kweebec is some exotic place...maybe I should've spelled it correctly )
Maybe we could get together maybe once a month or something and do some portraits or sketch street corner ( rather awkward in the winter but coffee shops could work out)??
Where do you hang out ?
Lol, yeah maybe people do think that Kweebek is somewhere in the Caribbeans hehe.
There are quite a few place that have hookahs ("salon du the" took them out cuz people were going there just for that) but there are "Cafe Gitana" and "Hookah lounge" that are pretty cool ambience wise. The weird thing about smoking hookah and drawing at the same time is the very weird stuff that comes out onto paper when u start feeling like your floating
Well your right, the cold weather is coming in and it would be shitty to sit outside and freeze off with our sketchbooks (Starbucks is always a good choice for me )
Maybe we should search out members in the members list and ask them, cuz there doesn't seem to be a lot of Montreal people noticing this thread.
Patience grasshopper 8)
Just kidding, I think it's a great idea.
Right now I'm leaving it to lady luck, these things can take time before picking up, and this thread is a good place to throw suggestions or post events for people in Montreal.
Maybe one day we'll even throw a TD challenge.
BTW, this isn't my thread, this is just a small snowball. If you have any ideas or feel like doing something to contribute, GO FOR IT !!
Initiative is so much more fun when there are no consequences.
So yeah, track down other members.
So far I found one (other than you)
So it's: Dennal Floss 1 : Demeter Luna:0....................hehehe
Well I know that Sparth is in montreal, but I'm pretty sure that he's must be over his head busy with work (oh and I would feel intimidated to sit next to a master artist :bashful)
There's Redmond, La Palida, endregan (at least I only found those that posted something)
Yeh so the score is now Dennal Floss:1 Demeter_Luna: 4 (plus me and plus you) that makes 6
There's a couple of guys from Cine Groupe who have comic jams at Casa DelPopulo. They're a bit hard to approach though. :/
Cinégroupe ??? I saw that place die...I even relieved them of some stuff. I know they still do some pre-prod and design work but who are the guys you're talking about and ......do they bite ??
I know there used to be jam nights at casa but I never checked to see if that's still happening . I'll look it up.
I'll post the schedule here soon. So stay tuned
Hey Luna :maybe we should start a competition thread to see who can find the most Montréalais. Wait maybe this is it !!!
shit I'm losing Hey good job !!
Hey Redmond! nice to hear from ya
the question is: would you be interrested in a meeting where we would just hang around and doodle?
Hey Dennal, maybe we should just write up all the names of people who live in montreal. And when they see their own name show up, theyll post something...... seems to be working so far
I'll get back to you on that this week-end.
So I spoke to a guy at la casa who told me to speak to Billy Mavreas who then said:
" Comic jams at la casa should be every last sunday of the month between 1 and 6 o'clock "
That's good for me ( especially daytime hours ) but the last sunday of octobre is Halloween so unfortunately I'll be pretty busy that day.
But once a month is nice because I sometimes have an overly charged schedule and I wouldn't want to start something that I can't commit to.
Other than that, I sometimes go to a life model session
thursdays from 7 to 10 P.M , 5455 de Gaspé suite 200
I will also be going to the uqam sessions at the "pavillon design" (when time will permit )
wednesdays 6 to 9 P.M on Sanguinet (corner st-catherine)
I know there should be other sessions ( like colins and mclean, and maybe another session at uqam on sundays between 11 A.M. and 2 P.M. ) but I haven't been there for years so I can't confirm.
Post any places, sketchgroup suggestions or events !!!
*pokes head in*
Wow I didn't know there was a thread going in there. Abandonned this corner of the forums after I saw this thread die ..
Well yes. And a few of them are on the forums... Guess they all have a life
salut les caves!
i've seen way more people form montreal than that on this forum.
nice to see this thread is revived.
by the way, anyone know where i can attend life drawing session with a model, not a class, just a session for like 5 or 10$, had them in CEGEP but now.... anywhere in montréal or the area.
oh, as for ubi and EA, sparth was in montreal, but he's leaving right now for ID games....
im in montreal
element412 : I know of a few places but can't give the address off handed. Plus I never went to check them out. I saw what seemed to be a place near work but still have to investigate. A lot of the attendees looked afwully young -read CEGEP material So I don't know how professional that place is or what does the instructor (?!??!) is worth.
If anyone else has some good places to share, I'd also be interested. I'm in a dire need to shake the cobwebs of my brain's right side...
i'm actually searching for something without any professor or anything so it's cheaper, already had some class in CEGEP now i'd like to practice...
well at 20 i think i'd also be in your ''young'' people class but oh well, i think i can still attend some session at my old Cegep,(ahuntsic) but if i remember it's on friday nights... that ain't really nice.
ah oui en passant tu semble parler français, alors salut!.
en passant , est-ce que tu travail comme concept artist à montréal?
There isn't any shop i know in montréal that really got wacom products.. everyone can order.. usually... but for a nib....
i actually got 5 of them at home, they came with my intuos 2.. and i don't use my tablet enough right now to use them, if your are interested..
i'm in the montreal area if your need some now.
in other way, any store could order them with their next batch of wacom products, i'd try something like www.sigmawave.com , they're not "that' friendly but they usually got the best price i can find.
*digs through threads*
hey did you guys n gals noticed that some time ago in Jason's MB showcase thread that they were actually considering Montreal for the next CA North American Workshop ? Did you go sharpen your pencils right away ? No ? Well what the fuck are you waiting for then ??!
Will you be there ? I know I will, provided memory doesn't fail at the last minute that is.
Layil Here... yes, you are correct that the next workshop is in Montreal (are you excited? youd better be!!!) and im starting the preliminary research on the city and its resources to start setting things up.
Id like to hear what you guys have to say on the city, if any of you are willing to volunteer a hand scouting places out, or know anyone up there who may. Also, any local guys who want to play tour guide to us when we get there, were gonna need a local contact to show us around and do some running around for us as well.
Were looking for a large event space that holds about 1000 people, with multimedia capabilites and several rooms for different demos. It should be as centrally located as possible and near public transportation and hotels... We arent looking for a really commercial or corporate looking space, rather an alternative "artsy" place with a cool aesthetic to it. The venue isthe first step in setting this up, everything else (hotels, etc) revolves around the venue location.
A starter question: What are the most popular neighborhoods in montreal, the artsy part (think east village in NY or soma in SF), the downtown area, the touristy area, the industrial warehouse district, etc.....? Were thinking cheap, cool, but not too far away from everything.....
