love the second one. Personally the first one literally 'falls flat' theres not a great feeling of depth, not nearly as much as the second one. The first drawing's right hand especially feels very very 2dimensional. Plus the pose seems rather stiff.
The second drawing has a much more natural feeling to the pose, he really feels like he has mass.

the use of higher contrast in sketch2 really 'pops' the picture up off the page and is something that could really help sketch1.
As for the pose of sketch1, his body is positioned in very straight forms. His right arm for example is very rigid. Something you might try is to put yourself in the same pose as your concept (if possible). If you find it uncomfortable chances are your character would as well, and therefore probably doesnt 'look right'. try rounding out the figure a bit. bend his right arm 'down' and 'in' towards his body a bit.
another thing i noticed in the first sketch is he looks like hes about to fall forward, make sure that his center of balance works. To do this try drawing a line straight down through his body. There should be about equal amounts of 'him' on either side of the line. If there is too much on either side, he better have something to lean on or support himself with.

did a quick overpaint/animated gif to illustrate what i mean about balancing the pose and the body.
also if you think about the act of pulling back a cloak or something similar, you grab the fabric then 'push' it behind or to the side. as a result the arm will be partially hidden as it 'moves back'. So i changed the right arm to show this movement a bit. The original arm looked more like it was holding the cloak out in front.
The different colors are just a quick way to differentiate between the parts of the body, red = torso/legs, blue = cloak, green = arms
