Hello everyone! I'm another lurker who's joined the forum to improve their skills.
There's not too much to say about me - I'm a 15 year old student who's been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I've only recently started to get seriously motivated about my art. It's hard to grapple with school and practice, but I'll give it my best shot.
Of course, any comments and criticisms are needed and totally welcome. Here's a few past studies and such that I've done as an indicator of what I need to get better at.
Here's a face study (that I ended up spending a bit too much time on...)
The smaller faces were photo studies, and the larger one was from memory instead.
I have a lot of trouble increasing the contrast in values in my paintings and drawings, so that's something to work at.
Just need to finish my homework sooner and practice more!
Trying to improve my line quality (chicken scratch indeed). I'll do more pen drawing and line practice - especially with perspective.
Attempting to render my headphones in pen went pretty badly...
Also more anatomy sketches. I'm getting better with them in pencil at least!
Hey, Thanks for visiting my sketchbook! Tips duly noted, those studies are looking great, keep up the good work!
I'll probably post once every few days since posting everyday with all this homework is impossible x.x
I did some more gesture drawing and such in Photoshop since my digital line quality is more terrifying than looking at Cthulhu.
Also, I got around to drawing something completely from imagination! The underlying anatomy looked decent, but I'm awful at foreshortening and clothing still.
Some drawing of clothing from life is in order.
Finally, here's a WIP of a planar skull I'm sketching in my art class.
I had to erase and redraw it a bit since I get proportions wrong when I focus too much on details.
(Sorry about all my scans being awfully levelled and contrasted out. My scanner is pretty lame.)
sunsetorchid - Glad you could drop by my sketchbook! I'm happy my tips could be of use.
palladium - Thank you! Indeed, I have the newbie tendency of not finishing off work / jumping from little piece to little piece. I need to get a good mixture of short and long studies.
On that note, I've started another head study that I want to polish up this time. I actually like where it's going so far.
Geez, I haven't posted in over a week!
I went through a pretty big depressing slump, but it really isn't any good worrying about how bad you are - just means you're bad enough to get to work.
It's a lot easier to draw when you just focus on what you can do in the present.
Here's some small stuff I did in the meantime, and an update on some of the past studies.
Vulgar` - It's just delightful scribbling all over those things, isn't it?
Did some muscle and bone studies this time!
Annnnd schoolwork + finals review is crushing me! I'm still drawing daily though, no matter how little the amount may be.
I haven't gotten around to scanning some small things I've done, but here's a hand study.
It's really hard for me to apply my studies to drawing from imagination, I feel. I'm probably just not studying intensively enough...?
I really have no idea what I'm doing at allllllll
I try to put lots of time into studies and it seems to end up looking like a bunch of inconsistent messes.
Not sure how to explain it, but there's always resistance while improving. If anyone has any ideas at all for more effective studying
(since I'm really just drawing and painting whatever I have problems with, which is everything) please tell me!
Lots of work in progress stuff here for now.
I know exactly what you mean with not knowing what to study and feeling lost!
I think that you're doing the right stuff tho, that ''skull study '' looks like a really good way to learn the planes of the face!
Can't wait to see the finished version of your painting study .
"A man chooses. A slave obeys."
AHHHHHH finals are finally over! I seriously need to get back to art over winter break.
I sadly don't have much to post for these past two weeks, but I'll be drawing everyday now
Here's some practice I did yesterday, and more WIP things. Making finished work is tough for me but I'll get this Sargent study done somehow.
Dang winter break is so distracting...finally finished my study and started on another plaster cast.
It's hard to make myself draw when it doesn't feel rewarding or fun, but I have to make it that somehow.
