Update: I've had about 100 replies and am all set -- if you applied and haven't heard from me, I will be in touch this weekend. This posting is now closed. Thanks!
I'm in the process of finishing up my 4th novel for release in the early fall. It's called The Broken God Machine and tells the tale of a far-flung future in which the earth has been shattered and mankind has mainly reverted to a stone-age existence. It includes crazed beast-warriors, ancient but still-operative advanced technology, and two different hunter/gatherer societies that come together in an attempt to save the dying world.
I need a badass, eye-catching sci-fi cover (just the illustration -- I can handle the layout). The artist will be required to read a few character descriptions and a short scene from the book, and to work with me to come up with some cover ideas. Usually it works best if the artist does a few thumbs, and then we pick out one we like and go from there.
My previous books, the II AM Trilogy (http://iiamtrilogy.com) have been quite successful. The first one, a freebie, has been downloaded more than 500,000 times. The second has sold more than 25,000 copies so far, and the third came out in November and has already topped 6,000 sales. This is a good chance to get your work out in front of a lot of people.
The finished piece needs to be 6"x9" with half an inch of bleed at 300 DPI ... so 1950x2850. Bigger is fine as long as it maintains a 6.5:9.5 aspect ratio. The piece will be used as a cover for both the eBook and print editions. Credit will be given in the copyright page and acknowledgments page in ALL versions, and on any web promotions I do for the book.
I will need this cover illustration absolutely, totally finished by the end of July at the latest. My budget is $1,000.00 USD (but you don't have to be based in the US), and I can pay by check or paypal. This isn't my first time recruiting illustrators, and my previous artists will vouch that I happily pay on time and in full (half up front, half on completion). I'm a professional, and I want to work with a professional -- good communication and dedication to producing quality material are a must. You will need to be willing to sign a simple, plain-english contract before starting.
I don't have a particular art style in mind for this one, so submissions will be judged based on what makes me go "wow". Here are some of the talented folks who've earned previous gigs from me:
