I know that many artists like to start painting their works in greys first in order to get an impression of light and shadow values. After that, they start adding colour, based on the tonal values needed.
My question is, how do you go about that in Photoshop? Which layers should one use, what settings for the layers work best?

Great tutorial videos on the whole, too. I think the best thing to remember when adding colour to greyscale is that it takes time and you there are not real quick fixes.
