"When the most secret division of the Navy took command of the first submersible flotilla commissioned in decades, it was rumored that it would be a powerful instrument of the submarine arm. What was to come of this new and mysterious asset to the Naval Fleet was unknown...but what was known was that it would change submarine warfare forever."

It's a submarine base built into the bottom of an iceberg so it can travel along the Arctic Ocean without too much suspicion. The deck is built around 2500ft/760m below sea level, or below crush depth for modern attack/boomer submarines and also is in the Mesopelagic zone where there is almost no light. It can run silent by shutting off its lights and masking its working noises with natural iceberg sounds. It can also communicate with its subs by encoding information in the iceberg sounds.
Here's my final, I was thinking of a submarine base that is also mobile and can navigate deep frozen waters. Basically a giant submarine that houses regular sized submarines.
Breakdown of my steps: Step 1 is my 3D Base Model that I made. Really helps with perspective. Step 2 is a texture overlay to kill all the emptiness on the canvas. Step 3-5 is what takes most of my time, trying to make sense with darks and lights and texture. And step 5 is refining the drawing, and the last step is applying color on top. I find that if I start with a black and white rendering, the color process goes so much quicker (and easier!).
A covert base of operations, stationed beneath a enormous iceberg, remains dormant until the military issues an order to deploy all naval units that currently reside at the location.
I decided to make a base attached to a side of iceberg, which is also capable of small movement control, due to huge turbine (propeller). Technique-wise is painted on top of basic 3d mesh (so much easier in such complex geometry). I implemented also a few textures.
I hope you like it,
Venturing deep underneath giant icebergs of the Nordic seas, this scout-sub stumbles into an old submarine base. Hidden by tonnes of ice and darkness, this
old relic lies still and unmoving in it's own tomb beneath the crushing depths.
Watson: Y'know, I seen me a mermaid once. I even seen me a shark eat an octopus. But I ain't never seen no phantom Russian submarine.

Impressive round. There's a lot of hard work in each of these's entries, I can surely tell.
Personally I like to think of this topic as something dark and hidden. Something that draws the viewers eye into something secretive, and ofcourse something really cool when revealed! My vote goes out to Velocity Kendall because his piece does just that.
Great job to everyone else! I had a blast myself. Can't wait to start on the new round
Really, really great round. I didn´t keep the flame up to finnish myself, but damn, you guys really pumped it out.
I especially like artozi, you´re mix with 3d and excellent texture-painting is really cool looking. Keep it up!
