[ Good grief -- I thought I wasn't gonna have another lapse again in posting so soon, but I'm back in the saddle and'll be shooting out topics with a reinvigorated gusto. ]
[ ...or WILL I??... ]
[ ...No, really -- I will. ]
[ Okay, do something crazy for this and I will too. ]
Sci-Fi BIOMECHANICAL CREATION, STILL SLICK FROM ITS NEARBY BIRTHING POD

Spent about 50+20mins on this, saw a few things worth changing after a break from looking at it
Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.
In a bad mood? Take it out on my sketchbook! All constructive critique welcome!
Website Tumblr Deviant Facebook
6 hours or so, first time testing SAI and all. Fun to go bit crazy. Long worm drilling-thing grown from a pod that's been in space for millions of years.. Nice subtle light on yours Hamsta seems like all the submissions have a certain mood to them this time.
First daily sketch
"The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark." - Michelangelo
Was going to do it fully painted and goopy - but the lines took too much time as I haven't done line art in years (since 2007 I think)
Dan - nice one man! haha i was planning on painting mine up fully too, but same thing happened... too much time on the linework! oh well, i may finish it up another time...
DSG # 1616 - biomechanical creation, still still slick from its nearby birthing pod.
i went for a Dune inspired image. i always have wanted to draw an Axlotl tank(an Axlotl tank is a device which takes an Adult Female, and basically converts them into a fattened incubator.), ive tried to picture it in my head, and this is pretty much how i envisioned them looking. the 'biomechanical creation' in the foreground is a Ghola, which in Dune is basically a clone grown from the cells of a deceased human. they can also have their memories restored to them, from their prior lives, in which case they become like a second chance at life. some gholas go on to live countless lives, and aqcuire thousand of lives worth of memories. this particular Ghola is one of Duncan Idaho, Swordmaster of Ginaz, and weapons master of House Atriedes.
Dum dum dum, this is the first thing that came to mind for some reason. Spent a few hours on it last night before I went to bed

damn Jose ~ that's just wonderful and I wish I had thought of something as beautiful as what you just concocted.
Love the idea and the execution ~ feels more like art than some cheeky concept, perhaps a dystopian reflection of humanity and life and not some silly monster as with my escapism piece.
congrats - this won my
Tanks should have been bigger and should have put more effort in detailing it but too sleepy at 3 AM
.. Aaand , you kidding me Dan ? I like your linework on this one tons; even better then the color works in the previous DSG
Will appreciate critique anywhere, anytime .
Don't worry Oddo I'm just hard to please - for example I did this version first (I've done similar failures before that have ended in me not posting in the DSG at all as I demand more of myself than the image below gives).
and once I gave up on it I didn't plan to ever show it since I disliked it too much - but a few days later at least I can post it as a sake of this comment. (the idea was much the same - and I actually did a rough version with scientists looking at the new creation, prodding it a bit and taking notes.
& I always want to fix more, change things and I'm never really happy with my works - its a never ending conflict but one I enjoy so even when I bitch and moan its all apart of a rather loving process that I wouldn't enjoy if not for the challenge involved.
So I would probably not care for achieved perfection - luckily that will never happen.
So perhaps I should be happy that people liked the lines in one of few line-art pieces I've done in many a year (you won't find many in my SB) - but I meassure it up to my vision of what I wanted and there I still see flaws with almost every stroke and line in the piece.
That said I was happy with my submission to
DSG 1113: Sci-Fantasy: PYRAMID IN THE JUNGLE IS ACTUALLY A GIANT LIVING ORGANISM
It was my very first DSG back in 2006 - Since it was really one of my first paintings my vision didn't stretch much further and I was content with these at the time - more so than my piece in this DSG (and a lot more than the one posted in this comment).

Are black & white posts allowed? I don't own a Wacom yet
Lots of cool stuff guys! There are some real nice concepts in here.
After almost a year of not drawing at all, I've decided that it's time to start doing this and get back in the swing of things. I'm limiting myself to 45 minutes for the DSG, so the entry's a little rough but here it is anyway. Enjoy!
Hee, I decided to have a go at this, too ^_^
this is meh i liked my idea but it didnt work out how i wanted so i stopped upon coloring
Hamsta: I wish I could lay down ideas like you do with your use of textures and color, Feels desolate and lonely. Love it!
R3u5: I love the presentation and how it still feels like a sketch. It's hard for me to see the form of the creature but that's probably because i have been up for several days without sleep haha.
PuppetDoc: Reminds me of the tube thing from the fifth element. Neat idea! Maybe introduce more ambient lighting?
Nemodab: Love the worm/mole feel! Great sketch! All I can say is that perhaps the horizon is a bit over saturated ad the pod could have a bit more detail to compliment the creature a bit.
Burnt-Ice: This is my first daily sketch as well! Cool idea reminiscent of terminator. I would keep an eye on your lighting and desaturate the liquids. Maybe add a green rim light from the monitor. Great job keep it up!
Dan Liimatta: Yes please. Yes. Please. Also on your second post.
NickyBeats: Awesome design and composition! I love it!
Klesk33: Great rendering, wish I could do that!
Oddo: I've decided that I am going to let you show me how to do that. Only thing I would say is that the creature doesn't really looks "slick" from being hatched. But other than that *drool*
DaShaMa: Great composition and awesome line placements. I don't get the "slick from birth" vibe on this one either but dang ... good work!
Big Orange: Good job using perspective with the background. I am also going to try and post here on a regular basis. I would try to work on forms a bit and doing thumbnails before committing to an idea. Good luck and keep at it I will be learning right along with you!
Jarkuzy: I like the simplified lines and forms. You need to get a Wacom because I can totally see that line work being rendered out into an amazing piece of work!
Witcrack: Great use of line and line weight to express the feeling of the composition. Looks wonderful! Really I wish I could do stuff like that! Only suggestion is maybe up the line weight o the guy in the foreground his head gets a bit lost.
Doubleedged: Great way to mix it up the style is outstanding I could see that style in a modern type comic book. Maybe a little more clarity as to what is going on with it's mouth area, it kind of gets jumbled up. Great piece!
Lightfibre: Great value rendering! There is something "off" about the composition though. My eyes keep wandering over to the empty space on the right and then right off of the page. I don't doubt for one second that it would be crazy good if it was fully rendered.
Penciltipred: Ugh I do that all the time! Great concept I love how he's drinking coffee like "hey, been here the whole time" yet it still feels like it was just "birthed".
Great job everyone so far! You guys make me embarrassed to post me drawings! But I will never get better if I don't practice! Also I may not comment on all the posts from now on as it took FOR-EV-ER! (read like the kid from "Sandlot")
But any who here is my sad little sketch for the day. First thing I thought of was like a caterpillar in reverse metamorphosis so that's what I went with. I was going to color it all out but then I got going on commenting on everything and now I am just to tired to do it haha but here it is let me know what you guys think!
Here's my super original design.
"You might be disappointed if you fail, but you will be doomed if you don't try"
I like the caterpillar idea, and how sad it seems, slumped next to a drain. Would be interesting to see the contrast between a mechanical shell and a mostly natural insect.
As far as your colors go, I suspect you may have gone into rendering details too soon. Try establishing a definite light source and blocking in colors.
Thank you for appreciating me using perspective in my quick doodle.
this is cool!

dan liimatta - You are really ridiculously excellent. Amazing stuff, full of thought and creativity and interest!
Hamsta, Nickybeats, Klesk33, Oddo, DaShaMa, ismo, and Malakuko -- Great to see so many sharp sketches!
Sorry I came up so short on my little challenge, and then let it all languish again, but here's something too little too late that I came up with. Didn't even get around to the slickness... Good grief I'm really dropping the ball here.
My issues with my router seem to have resolved themselves as of last night, so maybe I won't feel at such arms-length from the internet now.
