I envy your patience to the details
Keep it up, its really inspiring!
those creature designs are epic! amazing progress, fantastic to go through your sketchbook! my eyes didn┤t bleed though...
keep posting man! can┤t wait to see more
fireblade: Thanks dude! I agree haven't really studied materials all that much, gonna have to do so at some point.
tsabu: I wasn't aware I had patience, haha...Thanks man!
stinkypanda: well that's good news! Thanks for stopping by!!
Cow 300 progress, scrapped the last monarch, although I did like it, I didn't want to bug out all the designs so I went for something a bit more reptilian in nature I think it is working out a lot better, still need to refine these designs, but the basic idea is there...also had been hanging out at the cghub drawing jams and sketched out some stuff for the latest topic: Dragon Guardian...there giving us a month to do this over there so I'm definitely gonna make the effort even with Cow 300 ongoing...
edit: made some slight adjustments to her hips and waist...
edit:edit: and another chow sketch...cuz I feel like it...
One more thing people!! Stop by Cow 300 if your up to the challenge!! Link's below, in my signature!!

Some really nice designs here Rob! You show great progress since you started posting at CA : )
Keep it up, I'm sure you can get into the game dev industry if you want to (saw on your blog that's what you like to do some day).
May I suggest you work a bit on your human anatomy and skin? It seems like you very good at creatures but might need some more work on your humans.
ashess: Thanks, I ended up just dropping that one altogether, didn't really like it to begin with
Nextra: Thanks, I am currently reading and studying the book, Anatomy for the Artist by Jeno Barcsay which I must say is really helpful.
After much brainstorming (and hurting) I think this could very well be my final lineup for my colony creatures! Once I get done rendering these and I have time I may do a second warrior creature, but we'll see!
remember folks COW 300 is still going, there's just two weeks left, but there's still plenty of time to get those creature designs in!!
ooh, great ideas as ever. really like the rhino thing too. ah, but that unicorn's back legs are a bugger. not just the hip-knee-ankle curve you probably were talking about when you showed that ref from the starving horse. the far back leg is bothering my worse actually. you probably already noticed, but when the hips//backbone is straight as in your shot, that far back leg could never hang that low.
lol. regardless it looks beautiful though. how do you do that?
Thanks ashess, I think I know what your referring to, legs do need some tweaking though...How do I do it? sometimes I ask myself the same thing, haha this time around I did some greyscale rendering then I set that to multiply and added a colour layer underneath, once I'm satisfied with that then I'll be painting over top adding highlights details and corrections...
a couple 30 min speedies I just for a group on FB...
I scrolled on your first page...my eyes survived! Anyways cool sketchbook your creature designs are quite epic keep it up !
well thank you BansheeSix!
A few 30 min spitpaints!
planning on taking this further cuz a half hour was not enough time for me to show the whole concept...plus I like the idea...
and some stuff for cow...
Loving your sketches, your creatures are so life like menacing and dynamic , me still jelly about how you do your values . . .
KEEP IT UP!!!!
