We're currently working on a 2d animated film. It's a semi-realistic style and you could maybe say it's an east-meets-west kinda style. We're not looking for cartoony style backgrounds, we're looking for a skilled painter who knows how to use light and understands perspective. A good concept artist might also be able to do this job. We're mainly looking for someone who can take a rough layout or a semi-finished painting and take it to completion without losing the structure and vibe of the original rough.
We prefer a loose, art-orientated style over a clean, sharp and polished style.
The backgrounds mainly focus on landscapes, with a few architectural structures here and there but not much. Mountains, forests, trees, bodies of water... that kind of thing.
This project will be going for the next 7-10 months and is a paying job. At this time we are able to pay 200-600 NZD per background, depending on the background and/or the skill of the artist. If someone is able to knock our socks off and requires a little more for their work, we could negotiate further. There are also a few key backgrounds that we would be willing to pay more for if the artist is skilled enough for the job.
We are based in Auckland, New Zealand - and although we would prefer someone who could come into the studio, we are now considering hiring a freelancer as long as they are talented enough to carry out the work from long distance. We have had a hard time trying to find someone who can fill the position and are hoping we can pull some talent from CA.org!
Bottom line: If you're a good digital painter who understands light, perspective and composition you can do this job. I'm sorry if the pay isn't high enough but it's all the budget allows for at this time. Thanks in advance!
