This is a cyborg whale I am currently working on. The mesh is pretty much finished at this stage. It still needs textures and some details in zbrush. The whale is based on a sperm whale though I took some artistic liberties as can be clearly seen in the larger eyes and the upper teeth...
And here is the textured version:

Ha! That's so awesome, if I still did Warhammer I would totally get a 3d print of that and just sneak it in my army

@ HackTardist: Lol, thanks!
@ ^_^: Thanks. Yes it would be cool to see him fight an ork gargant. :-)
bizarre but cool
And here is the textured version:
I finished the story for him as well:
The Story of Whalehammer
The year 2123:
Through war and pollution mankind has almost destroyed earth. Most of the planet has become a barren wasteland. 75% of all animals have been extinct. The oceans are full of waste and noise from ships, oil drilling and fishing. But still driven by greed and violence mankind continues its destructive path.
But nature has finally found a way to fight back. No longer able to communicate by sound signals through the noisy oceans, sperm whales have slowly developed the ability to send telepathic messages. Their telepathy has grown so strong that they are able to send their cries of pain and agony into the thoughts and dreams of all men. Five percent of the human population are driven mad and commit suicide when the whales start their transmissions. The rest finally realize what they did to themselves and their world and stop abusing the planet. Humans and whales swear to work together to save the earth.
The year 2173:
During the last fifty years mankind has worked to rebuild earth under the guidance of the whales. Having not only developed telepathic abilities but also a remarkable intelligence, the whales have been able to help human scientists to find new ways of generating cheap and clean energy, fight earth’s pollution, repopulate the animal kingdom and grow enough food to conquer famine all around the world. The whales helped politicians from all countries to end conflicts without violence and bring peace to the whole planet. By 2173 earth is ruled by one government consisting equally of humans and whales.
The year 2281:
With war, famine, diseases and pollution a thing of the past humans and whales were able to put all their resources together to colonizing the rest of the solar system. Self sufficient colonies on the moon are established. The first stage of terraforming Mars begins. Human and whale scientists are working on a warp drive that will enable them to visit far away star systems.
The year 3611:
Humans and whales have successfully colonized hundreds of star systems over the last centuries. Some planets in those systems are colonized by man only, some only by the whales but most are still shared by both species. Having adapted well to living in space whales are often navigators or even captains on star ships, living in giant water tanks among the human crew. Some whales have developed telepathic abilities strong enough to allow instant communication between different star systems. Their live expectancy also grows allowing them to travel the stars for centuries. But the peaceful colonisation of men and whale comes to an abrupt stop when they first meet the alien empire of the Tronds.
The Trond Empire has expanded through the aggressive subjection of every other intelligent civilisation it encountered. Now the Tronds are determined to enslave mankind and the whales as well.
The year 3612:
Having lost its first star systems to the war mongering Tronds humanity goes back to its violent roots and draws together a huge army to fight against the Tronds. But the humans are hopelessly outclassed. Tronds have a second brain in their heads that allows them to interface seamlessly with their various engines of war and lets them calculate strategies of combat with a speed that humans cannot match even when supported by computers.
However it is soon discovered that whales can confuse the second brain of the Tronds and weaken their fighting skills. To defend their human brothers and their own planets the whales join the fight against the Trond Empire. Those whales volunteering for the war are genetically changed to be able to live outside the water. Special warsuits are created for them that let them fight on the ground as infantry or as aerospace fighters both in space and the atmospheres of their colonies. Whalehammer is one of the first whales to undergo these procedures and becomes one of the most dedicated soldiers of the war. He is best known for holding Fort Lumen in the Medusa system for 24 hours almost on his own. After that he is promoted to Battle General.
The year 3617:
After five years of brutal warfare the advance of the Tronds comes to a halt. Seeing the Tronds meet serious resistance for the first time has made many other enslaved races inside the Trond empire start rebellions of their own. With the empire being threatened to be torn apart from within the Tronds make a hasty peace offering to the human-whale alliance. For the next 23 years there is no war.
The year 3640:
Having smashed all rebellions inside their empire the Tronds continue their war on mankind and the whales. This time the Tronds have found a way to shield their engines of war and personal armour from the psychic attacks of the whales. But the human-whale alliance has not been idle either. A special kind of nanobot has been developed that can turn an ordinary human into a Mercenoid, an advanced cybernetic fighting unit that can match the fighting skills of the Trond soldiers. The whales have further honed their psychic abilities allowing them to think and react as fast with their cyborg bodies as the Trond pilots bound to their engines of war. Furthermore they now can release their mind powers as powerful telekinetic blasts that can tear through even the most advanced shields of the Tronds.
Battle General Whalehammer is once more called to arms and now fights among the Black Orcas his personal unit of human Mercenoids.

That is awesome! Bothe the texturing and the story! Worth reading!
Here are some early sketches for those interested in the design process. I start directly in the 3D program and try out the shapes there. I am not really good at drawing so it is easier for me this way:

Very Nice Model, love the textures.
@ soulburn3d: Thanks for the contructive feeback!
@ GStreeter: Thanks. Glad you like it!
This is my second whale character for my whale wars project. This is a female version called WhaleHawk.
WhaleHawk is an Air Whale, a special unit of whales that gives fire support for the larger Infantry Whales from the sky. The bionic exoskeleton for Air Whales can only support a certain amount of weight. Therefore it is limited to the smaller female whales or in very rare cases to you male ones.
WhaleHawk is a young whale who has joined the war only a few years ago. She comes from the same planet as the veteran WhaleHammer who she serves with.
Whalehammer is a legend back on their world. She looks up to him as some kind of mentor but her rash and reckless behaviour often put her at odds with him.
Above you can see WhaleHawk from various angles. Granted her design is not very aerodynamic but then it is a giant whale in an exoskeleton with wings.
I also sneaked a first glimpse of the evil aliens into this picture. The design is not finalized put I plan to make them at least twice the size of a human. At that size even a food soldier might pose a moderate threat to the whales. It also shows why the humans are hopelessly outclassed by the aliens and need the whales to fight for them.

This is the first picture of my Whalehammer prototype figure. This was the first time I tried 3D printing. The body was printed directly from my original 3D model. The whale part is still sculpted by a traditional sculptor because I prefer traditional sculpting for organic parts.
Still I changed from a 3D printing sceptic to someon who appreciates it for certain tasks. That prototype would have been a lot more expensive and slower to produce without it.
Outstanding rendering, both the character and the story. That cyborg whale is full of details. Do you intend to make other characters like him, or he's just alone? Anyway, hope to see more from you!
Thats awesome. When I first saw your artwork for this, I was thinking it would be cool in resin.
The Cosmic Kid studios
These are just awesome, and the story that goes along with them is cool as well. I have a huge soft spot for whales. Any chance you'll be offering resin figures for sale some time in the future?

"I started to see human beings as little lonesome, water-based pink meat, life forms pushing air through themselves and making noises that the other little pieces of meat seemed to understand."
Thanks CosmicKid. When I designed the figure I already tried to design it so it would make a cool resin piece.
Thanks to you SavageGoldfish as well. I usually do sell my figures in limited numbers as resin. Athough Whalehammer might take some time to produce because he is the biggest most massive figure I ever produced. So I have to figure out what is the best way to sell him.
So creative, Great job!
That's insane, I love it
Awesome concept, really loving the colour scheme.
I love the backstory, the design, the concepts and the finished work. It's all so very slick. If someone had tried to tell me they were going to sculpt this kind of thing, I'd of told them it was a crazy silly idea, but you pulled it off brilliantly.
Thanks again for all the feedback. I started to work on more characters from the universe starting with the main enemies, the Tronds. I wanted the size of the Tronds to be inbetween the height of a human and the height of a whale so that they would completly outclass the humans and be threat to the whales as well.
The Tronds are from a star system far away from the border regions of the Whale-Human Alliance. They are believed to be the descendants of two very different life forms that evolved into one very deadly organism. This happened very early during the development of life on their home planet, when all animal life was still living in the oceans. During that time a small parasitic squid like creature developed the ability to plug itself into the heads of larger animals with their tentacles and take control of their bodies. The tentacles would also provide them with nutrients from their host. The creatures seemed to prefer attaching themselves to the bodies of large ocean predators and thus became effectively the top of the food chain themselves. Over the time parasite and host evolved into a completely new animal. That new creature had the body of large carnivore, the aggressive instincts of a born hunter and the egoistical ruthlessness and cunning of a parasite. Tronds refer to their ancestor as the Alpha Hunter. Its greatest advantage however was that it still retained two brains that controlled their own sets of acoustical, optical and smelling organs. This allowed them to concentrate on different tasks at the same time, like looking out for possible enemies while hunting prey themselves. The interaction of the two brains also allowed for thinking capabilities unmatched by all their competitors. The creature became so deadly that is was responsible for the first animals to leave the oceans and start living on the continents. The creature however stayed in the water.
After thousands of years the animal had evolved further into a humanoid creature with a civilisation similar to that of humanity during the Stone Age. But when the ocean was ravaged by a series of underground earthquakes and volcanic eruptions for almost 200 years the Tronds evolved again and left the water for living on the land. But these new Tronds found out they were not the only intelligent species on their planet. One of the animals that had left the oceans when the Alpha Hunter still roamed the oceans had evolved into an intelligent humanoid mammal race. While their brains were not as evolved as that of the Tronds they had had no natural enemies or natural disasters on the land and thus had evolved to a civilisation similar to earth’s Bronze Age even. The mammal race did not mind its new cousins from the ocean but the Tronds with their parasitic predator instincts could not suffer any challenge to their rule of the planet. While slightly less advanced in weapons technology then their mammal cousins their aggression allowed them to wipe out their competition in less then a century. But this early challenge to their supremacy by what the Tronds call the “First Enemy” had left a psychological mark on the race. While the instincts left from their parasite ancestors had always given them little regard for the life of other creatures the Tronds now firmly believed that the had to exploit, enslave or wipe out all other life unless it suited their purpose.
Once the Tronds had established themselves on the surface of their planet it only took about 3000 years for them to advance their society far enough for interstellar travel due to the advanced thinking capacities of their two brains. By that time they had exploited most of their own planets resources and left it polluted with most animal life long consumed by the large Trond population. The Tronds never set out to explore space but only to conquer and plunder. For the next 5000 years they brought death and destruction to the galaxy enslaving or destroying several other star empires on their way. They were especially ruthless to civilisations that evolved from mammals. Their encounter with “First Enemy” whose civilisation had evolved faster then their own, despite only having one brain, had made them more fearful of mammals then any other being they encountered since then.
This fear became justified when they encountered the realm of the Whale-Human Alliance. Never since their fight against the “First Enemy” had the Tronds encountered such a powerful opponent. The war with the Alliance even inspired an uprising of races that had been enslaved by the Tronds for centuries. The Tronds were forced to a ceasefire with the Alliance to quell the revolutions rising in their realm. Like always they were swift and ruthless. Every race that tried to rise against them was completely annihilated. Only a few hundred survivors could escape the genocide by seeking asylum within the Whale-Human Alliance.
With the rebellions inside their realm smashed the Tronds have started a new war with the Whale-Human Alliance to destroy this threat to their rule of the universe once and for all.
