Diamandis: I don't get your last post. What do you mean by "what happened"? Oo I just said that Jana is working longer in the industry than Anna, is there anything wrong about that?
aks9: thank you =)
Because the end of the year is near, it's time for the improvement meme!
love your painting style, keep bashing it!
To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.
Nice improvements '' meme '' !
You've come a looooooong way . It's cool to see the journey! All that's missing is the music * starts playing Team America - Montage *.
"A man chooses. A slave obeys."
Oh crap! I misread your original post as "Jana is NO longer in the business." My bad. I was like, "Wow, why did she quit? Did she get pregnant, or her hands were giving her too much trouble?" Etc.
Awesome to see your improvement. Whee!
Woooow! Your improvement meme is very inspirational! The detail you used to put in from way back when! It's awesome. I plan to do one of those next year. This year I just did a summary meme. Still motivational for me. Here's to 2014! *cheers*
Oh lordy I can't believe I can comment on a sketchbook of one of the artist who worked on Memoria and Deponia! I really loved those games.
Your progess chart is amazing, really inspiring. I guess you're one of my heroes now.
Keep on living the dream.
NyeAlexandaFrayne: I do have a painting style? that's cool :'D I hope I can make something out of it! thank you!
Mrkolsyrad: I don't know, but I think it's better that the forums don't play any music! I'm one of the guys who really have to go a long way. No fast improvement here, but no way of giving up! =)
diamandis:oh, that explains a lot! Now we understand each other =) Would be a pity if Jana would quit. On the other hand, some time went by since I last saw an update on her work. But that could be caused by NDAs.
Niquey:thank yaaaa! and do one too. It's fun (and awful) to browse trough all the old stuff if you put it together. For the summaries I don't even try it. Either I couldn't show work because it's still under NDA or I don't like to show it for some months. That wouldn't be a fun meme for me.
Zipfelzeus: aaw, it's so cool to have someone around here who knows the games! That didn't happen so far! And even better to read that you liked them! And you have a funny name Nice to see you around here!
I have to admit, that I'm not always sure if I want to go on with this sketchbook. But somehow, I give it some chances again and again. It's easy to notice that many people left ca.org and it isn't the same as a year ago, but there are still awesome and nice people around here.
My last painting of 2013:
Some random stuff, mostly WIPs:
Thank you for commenting on my sb, Frau Metzger ;p! Ok, I must say I'm super amazed by that improvement meme! God, I wish for my improvement to be just as awesome. I mean, you're super good now (for my beginner eyes at least)
well consider me a fan of your art now :p
Great progress! It's so cool to see how far you've come! If I make one comment, I think your sketchbook could use some studies from fine art as well as other digital artists. And by studies, I mean 100% copies. I know that might be a bad word with some people, but doing extremely accurate copies makes you break your current habits, and makes you raise your personal standards in rendering. You are developing a nice little style for yourself, but I think you just need to tighten your rendering up. From now on, its just a matter of nailing the subtleties and doing copies of great artists helps you notice subtle variations in core shadows, gentle edge play etc. Keep it up!
Seeing your progress is just awesome! Must have taken pretty long to assemble that nice overview
You worked on Deponia? That's freaking awesome! I love all the the Daedalic games
Your latest update is also pretty kick ass! I'll be dropping by here more often in the future!
Just keep on sharing your awesomeness
roozard:d'aaaw, thank you! It feels so strange to read that I should consider someone as a fan. But it's cool =)
Dario CiVon: Yes, I really should do more studies! I don't have problems with the copying part,it's more about finding the free time. But I notice I could learn so much from the masters... Their values are so awesome and kick ass! Really have to get into that! =) Thank you for taking the time commenting on my sketchbook!
ecki:yay, you know Daedalic games! Somehow wouldn't have thought to find some people around who know them. I worked mostly for Memoria, but a bit Goodbye Deponia too =)
Update time again! And I have a sketchdump for you. Well, most of the stuff is already old. First sketch is from August last year. But I scan rarely, so you have to live with it now =)
and my first portrait study with acrylic paint.
unfinished masterstudies (Bouguereau and Jaime Jones)
Update on my latest WIP painting
Your latest batch of sketches are really cool. I love the expressions and the basic foundational structure you have down so well. And that last illustration is really coming along. I like where it's headed. Looking forward to the finished piece!
And on a side note, if you did leave CA like so many others have, where would you go? Are there other communities like this that you are apart of?

Niquey: I just had the first thought of "what expressions?", but yeah, there are sketches there I tried to have something like that :'D I always think my sketches are soo boring and it always surprises me that people find something in them. Not so bad after all =)
Regarding the community thing: I was thinking about CGHub, as it seems to be hyped at moment. But that's mostly for the front page and galleries. The forum isn't as active as this one. That's the main reason why I stayed here. I don't know if there are any other alternatives that are worth considering. I like CA because it's big. And was even bigger once.
Hartsitikru: thank you! And keep on painting! Nothing better than a motivation bust!
Wow..really nice stuff. The latest pencil drawings look really free and confident.
Thanks for your feedback on my sketchbook. Definitely will try your suggestion for using fewer lines.
superb work on all these pieces. i love this piece http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...8&d=1390672202
Ok, now I understand what you mean by combining studies with fun stuff.
Hm, I missed it to make a post on my third Sketchbook anniversary. But I hadn't anything nice to show anyway =)
thank you all guys for the nice comments! Always awesome to see you around! Feels like I'm doing something right. At least a little bit.
Nortune: not that I have many studies around here. It's bad that I don't do more and instead try to work out the stuff in the paintings. Not a goood plan =) Mixture of studies and fun/serious paintings is always better.
I may call this one finished now, even if I'm still not happy after many rounds of repainting stuff.
Hey woow, you're so productive awesome stuff, so much improvement. Yay for pencil work. I think that your paintings are all somehow very light? Bright even. I'd like to see some more shadows layed in there. Checking out what you've done without colours (by turning it to black and white) helps a lot. Overall parts of the painting lighter or darker help in defining space - general rule being that the further you go, the lighter and less contrasted everything gets.
I did a a tiny paintover here to show you what I mean:
The top one is where I tweaked the values (very crudely), bottom is the original.
Hey there Valya/Julia. You're kicking ass! I like that you're taking your images towards finished levels and you're doing great work setting up perspective and color schemes. I think you could benefit from doing some composition studies though. This latest illustration has an interesting composition but it ended up a little cramped, which is taking away from the sense of depth in the image. For example, you could try playing more with relative sizes of characters in the scene to indicate importance and distance between them.
The master studies are looking very nice as is your traditional work, especially the architecture studies
Keep up the hard work
Hey great sketchbook !!
That Bouguereau study is awesome and in your latest piece i think you had a huge improvement, i love it! Would love to see more acrylics, that one portrait is really good!
Looking forward to see more stuff from you
Heyhey, krasser Werdegang bisher!
I like the last piece even if I think there could be done a bit more towards reading the composition. I'm not sure about how you intended it to be but to me it seems like you want the girl to be protected by the wall or maybe hiding behind it. She looks more paralyzed than anything else. But your painting quality is awesome, I'd only work more on the story/composition/elements of the flow of it. Can't wait to see more!
Oh and maybe this will help you, read it today and I love Greg Manchess for these lists that he posts sometimes!
Love your latest piece. I had a similar point about the composition, but being under experienced, I couldn't quite put it into words what was off. The above posters did a pretty good job of it anyways.
Yea CGHub. I've known of it for a while, but I kind of had the feeling of it being for the "big kids" not the amateurs like moi. So I kinda steered clear. xD I plan to ONE day venture into that sea, but not today. 8]
