Round 84 :: Love, Desire & Temptation
3 topics or one topic, illustrate which ever one you desire ;P.
So mix and match or just do one out of the 3 but they all fit each other.
Thanks Jatari for the suggestion on temptation
Trying hard to think of stuff that everyone will enjoy and I am thinking teen challenge should be a bit different from all the other challenges. Everything else is pretty specific so I want to keep TC as something a bit more relaxing and personal. Keeping it open as possible If you guys have any ideas throw them in the suggestions thread ----> Topic Ideas
Sunday, May the 2nd, 2010
1. Add a border around your image with your name and the topic, like they do with the other of the week challenges.
2. Please use the attachment manager, it helps preserve the images to forever and beyond.
3. Mark your final as final.
Good Luck everyone and Hope you have fun! If you have any ideas for where the teen challenge should go then please either PM me or post it in the suggestions thread.
Don't feel bad about asking questions guys. I am sure others will answer but I am pretty busy with exams right now.
* As long as it had teen on it you're fine so 13-19
* Anything you want
Your piece isn't 100% like the topic:
* It doesn't matter, you're an artist. You get to do it in a creative way and then explain later, as long as it fits in your vision and you have fun doing it.
Anything else just ask
ill be in on this one.. think I'm gonna wait for someone to post some inspiration first though, haven't the foggiest what to draw on this subject
This could be interesting to see what people come up with. Might enter so long as I've got enough time lol
two words...ice cream
Well...That Just Happened Didn't...
Wow, I was thinking about joining this all weekend, but totally forgot when this morning roled around. Inspiration struck me at school and what do you know the picture I'm thinking of doing totally fits! But anyway, first time doing this, sounds really fun. I'll try to have some sort of WIP up tomorrow
It's like the princess and the frog story, except in a rainforest because treefrogs are awesome.
That thing in her hand will become a frog. The frog wants to be human, but kind of likes his froggyness, and the girl wants to marry a princes but doesn't want to kiss a frog, so who's tempting who?
dearinheadlights: very interesting idea. I'm wondering why she is using the palm tree though. Is it cause she's trying to keep dry from rain or is she trying to keep out of the sun? Then I would ask, what is it that you want the audience to desire? Is it her status, connection with nature, beauty? Once you decide that push it so that you could bring the picture to a stranger and they spot it immediately. By pushing the concept farther, before giving in the the temptation of rendering, the work will be much more beautiful!
agrovent: As far as I'm concerned, and this is just my personal opinion, you should be allowed to show off your drawing uncensored. I say this because in the context of fine art (and that is the level of art we are trying to achieve) the admission is for all ages and the art features female nudes as well as male nudes. SOME people have problems with this, but what we make here isn't porn.
National geographic also shows nudity in it's issues, because in other parts of the world, breasts are considered a utilitarian part of the body.
So in my opinion you should be allowed to have your piece uncensored.
thanks for the reply Jatari =)
the way i see it, if for whatever reason i couldn't post this piece uncensored, i would make another one, no way the final product would have a black box or blur,
but i'm going onward with the piece because i feel like your view will probably be the same as that of most of the artists here~~
this is just a verry rough start, thinking sci-fi take on romeo+juliet theme? will deffo need to make it more unique!
Quick comments before I go and study more English :'(.... save me....
Agrovent: Nudity is allowed, everyone here realises that lol. I have yet to meet someone on CA who thinks nudity should be banned or something so do whatever you like
deerinheadlights: Beautiful piece. The colours and setting really set up a great mood for the viewer. I totally agree with what Jatari said and if you do that I feel it would push your work up to a new level. Other than that there are some anatomy fixes, like her left arm's position but I don't think that is as important. Also remember that her skin colour will be affected by her surroundings. Looking forward to the final result
Agrovent: That is a great piece! and your improving. Her expression is great and just the overall posture that shows such protectiveness and love towards the baby in her stomach. I like the setting so far, I would recommend going away from the piece for an hour and looking around the internet at what forests look like, do some sketches or studies or just record it in your mind then come back to the piece and add more realism but it looks great even now
Skyline: Looking very good so far. Very nice perspective and compositions. It's still rough so I can't really crit apart from I think the colours are maybe a bit too war-like? Hopefully you'll carry on with it because it looks goooood.
Pixie Tricks: I can't tell what the idea is yet since it's pretty rough but the first figure looks awesome, especially blowing the love hearts ;P
Thanks Jatari, the palm branch is for rain, I'll be adding more raindrops to the pic later. For desire I thought about the story about the frog who wanted to be a prince again, and the girl wants the power that the prince could grant her. Of course, I'm jealous of the fact she's a nature princess haha
Thank you lilnebo, I definately need to fix that arm!
Yours look great so far Skyline, the gray things at the top look like they could be rocket sentries or somthing.
Did a lot more on my pic, but now that I'm looking at it on another monitor it seems super dark. Also my friend mentioned since it's a tree frog it's probably poisonous, but then the frog has to work harder to convince her I guess?
im not too great at criting work, but here goes...
deerinheadlights: i like your work, i would love to see more foliage, leaves and the such, although the three you have done are good they look a bit out of place as there arnt any others in the background or forground. i like the little bits like the moss, a nice touch
Agrovent: the colours in the background are too bright, the colors should fade for the things further away. i sometimes find that adding a bit of a cold blue color can help show things in the distance. your line drawings are great, i would love to see some line deatail on the trees, and again, prehaps a variation on the foliage in the background.
Pixie Trick: i like what i see, all i can say is it would be great to see the image developed a bit.
ok so here is my second development, i am still messing around with the bacic shape, lines, and color befor i add deatail. the things in the sky was supposed to be air traffic like that seen in coursant (star wars ) but i think i will add that later.
k so people are fuckin rockin this one
gotta step up my game
heres a taco
i luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv tacos
heres three tacos
the more the better
hunchback- i dont even have to mention how awesome that is do i??? the textures are great, actually made me a bit hungry, ill admit o.0
deerinheadlights- i'm loving the way this is coming out! i really like what you're doing with the background in particular, its all coming together very nicely, the only thing that still catches my eye is her left foot (the one on the right side of the image) it seems a tiny bit longer than it should.
hok- after reading something Jatari said about Deerinheadlights' picture, i decided that maybe i was being too "tame" with this theme- soo.. i started something completely different, i'm working from reference again, but this time its a model from DA so i'm not going to post the piece untill i get her permission to use it here, but here is a preview without the linework
(i deleted the previous two pictures i posted in order to take up less space- i'll be working on the old piece again, but not for the TC)
the theme this time is desire / temptation
if anyone wants to see the current state of the piece before i post it here, its here
the image i referenced is by theSKINimin and is (NUDITY)here
edit numero 2--
its kind of sad, but i think the rough shade blocking below came out better than the drawing did after cleaning the linework >.< ugh.. i went through a number of tutorials to do the hair and skin and clothing, so it was most definitely worth it even if only for the learning experience

Ok, some critishness.
deerinheadlights: A very nice start! I would try to get a bit more solid lightsource perhaps. I know it goes against the idea of a gloomy rainy day with filtered light, but there's still light around. This would also mean the part of the woman under the leaf would be a bit more in shade. Also watch the area between the collarbones: a lot of the muscles of the neck attach there, so it isn't quite a deep a dip as you have.
skyline: I love the linework! Composition wise, you have a line of objects leading to the top right corner which draws your eye out especially because you have so much 'blank' room over there. A bit early to say much more.
agrovent: Again, a bit early to say much.
Great work everyone.
Another wip. I want some material like her dress is made of!
hey guys and girls
think ive reached the point where im not sure how to progress so any crits are awesome.
everyone is looking good so far, dont forget the due date of the piece so you can finish on time
drawn while listening to: (8tracks)
Slightly shivered. Mostly disturbed. Still working.
a guide on fighting loneliness
sooooooo i warmed up the tacos
FINAL!!!!! Gotta love shiny.
Hunchback: I kinda liked the green one. I think it's because you have a big contrast in the warm filling from the cool shell. It doesn't necessarily need to be a green shell, but the contrast was nice. Changing the warmth of the bg in comparison to the shells would also help pop them out of their bg.
