Abrodos - thanks yeah youre right, I kind of just did my own thing when it came to the lighting and I think half way I switched from an above light source to a below light source by accident haha
teapo - haha thanks! you have to be a bit mad to be an artist
40 minute do hickey for Intensity club
UG UG, my ChOW entry
Wanted to do a tonal study, then I thought why not add color
FINALLY starting to do some actual sketches. It clicked in my mind why they ARE important, but im still not very motivated to do them.
Failed godzilla studies. Was not motivated at all
Didnt get around to finishing the image. Might pick it up again later. Maybe
Sketch in the morning o
Study from life. A little rusty with digital life
Got the Bierek Mystery of Form download since Ive been thinking about form. And I got money from my birthday hehe. Its really cool but I knew alot of it already, however I like to be told by some one whos better than me
Heres my first attempt. Still life.
Im on this weeks ChoW again! Il do every week If I can! heh
Took me ages to get off the ground with this. The key word that threw me off was "uniform". I just couldnt imagine a necromancer wearing a uniform
I decided to just go ahead and paint and throw out ideas and get new ones etc. Love it.
I dont know what I was thinking but hey!
Started making bigger steps now. Going back further in time to a darker era perhaps.
And finally heres where I am now. The main drive Im trying to put behind this character is, to be the best necromancer out of a school of necromancy youve got to be fucked up in the head. And just totally obsessed and weird. You dont just dable in bringing the dead to life.
It needs to look like part of what shes wearing is uniform for her school of necromancy. I like to image the school as more of an apprentice to master program than academic. Sort of a cult too. Cut off from society.
I think that Rosie would be an example of the more well dressed within the group. But not with her own care towards how she looks.
I think Im stuck or maybe Im just done. Either way I have to draw paint and render the final image before tommorows over Its ok though I had already decided that this week Im just using a white background. And I really want to show her personality through her pose and expression.
Any help/advice would be tremendously appreciated!
Icecold - hey thanks had a look at your SB, subscribed!
Didnt get around to finishing my ChoW this week I dwelled in the beginning stages too long. I think I forgot that I only have ONE week haha. Oh well Im still going to finish it! Without a doubt.
Heres where I am as of last night.
some nice studies man! liking how your working out characters too. only crit i would say is maybe think of values in the skin abit more when working on them. seems alittle flat at the moment.
no87 - thanks yea that character stuff is hard work heh. If youre talking about that last image posted, there all just base tones, not even actually, I just threw them down so I could seperate the elements of the character for painting later. She will have a light pale skin tone when the image is finished Thanks for the concern though.
Hive_minD - Thanks, I try
Icecold - oh sweet! that was the effect I was hoping for. Youre the second person to say that btw, not including myself. I used photoshop, built up the form in stages
Just a quick update, no studies or nothing. Just to say happy birthday to Ringo Starr who is I believe 70 today! Not my favourite Beatle but I still love 'im!
The New Pirate AirShip Captain
Vlad worked with a vicious air pirate group for ten years to gain there trust. He gained his way to the rank of number two man of the captain. Before a battle with there enemies he silently killed the captain and all witnesses. He even had crew members on his side. He gave the rest of the crew a story of an attack by there rivals and since he was the no.2 guy, the decision to make him the new leader was unanimous.

Nice job on the captain! Your paintings look better with each update!
Watch the materials you're painting, they tend to all be fairly similar. Some more interesting texture/edge play would really help make the overall image more interesting. Other than that it;s really well painted, though the ship looks very empty...
Everything looks really good dude, but Im agreeing with Socks a lot here on the Pirate painting. You seem to paint in a very formulaic way, and you paint that way all over. Everything seems to have that photoshoppy hard round brush look to it where you not going into detail. Like the head and shoulders look good because the detail is giving it a certain feel. But where its looser, like the background, it all seems a little formulaic and un-interesting.
I would strongly recommend looking into working with more textured brushes and ones that have that real world painterly look to them. It will give the areas which are out of focus a less stale look to them. Just some simple brushes which have a little texture running through them, nothing too fancy.
Its sounds like a tough crit but its pretty minor, everything else you've got going is pretty good. Just the way you paint could be spiced up a little bit here and there.
Keep up the good work.
SirGreenSock - Thanks! Yeah your very right about the materials, one of the many things I messed up in that painting. I started a repaint and very quickly I began to fix most problems, Il post that later and some more excuses as to why I messed up so bad lol!
LAL - Thanks man! Its good to know I have one! ha
PHATandy - I totally agree with you man! You know when I was painting it I wasnt really thinking of the things I had set out to do, you put it really well, it was very formulaic. You know I think partly the problem was last week I was sick for the whole week, and I think I finished up that painting when I was beginning to get sick Im not sure, either way Ive fixed the problems now. Although the textures I did not even think of at all! Thanks so much for mentioning that! That was something I thought about alot over the week I was sick. When I was painting the air captain not once did I think, will some one want to look at this? So basically Ive started to think alot more about how I can make my paintings pleasing. Oh and please dont hold back, the crit wasnt harsh, it actually made me smile... weirdly, I like being told how I suck haha.
Heres a wip of ChoW 206. Going to do a proper post soon, Ive just been lazy about posting.
Love the design of the character so far, the face and beard are awesome!
I dont know if you meant the proportions to look a bit cartoony, but if not, you oughta beef up his legs more. His feet are rather small, and with the size of his head the way it is, it really has a bit of a Johnny Bravo proportion to him. Think part of the oddness is also that his head is fully fleshed out...and nothing else is? makes it almost seem like the head is floating or stuck-on.
I should note taht you are reallly improving with each post, its really great to see!
teapo - Thanks man Those costume sketches were fun! glad you like em, you too teapo!
SirGreenSock - Thanks Thanks for pointing that out man, I did add "beef up legs" to the list after reading this. The floating head thing was always a half Idea in my head, I mean I wanted it to be implied but not neccesarily show it. I was thinking of the spirit in "Spirited Away", the one they wash and then hes just a floating old head, you know the one? But man his feet were tiny! HAHA I had to change them. Thanks man im trying pretty hard

Repaint of ChoW 204 WIP
Ive finally got around to doing my own paintover of the last ChoW. Because after doing it and immidiately realising ALL the mistakes I made I thought I shouldnt just leave it and say lesson learned. I want to make this image work!
The three main things that went wrong were:
Didnt paint it thinking of how it would come across to others
Never got around to the second light source
Started everything off very dark expecting to build up, but that led everything to be very muted down and uninteresting
So heres what ive fixed so far. It can still go farther. I feel like If I can make this one perfect that will help me in future paintings. Also it will hopefully improve my eye for errors.
Character Idea (im currently modelling him in 3DsMax)
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. I feel like I grew a little more with this one.
Shitty self portrait! (had a bad art day, ended up playing StarCraft 2 for the rest of the day)
Painting better today! But I gotta do some animating
Add me on Star Craft 2!! I dont know how... but my email is firstname.lastname@example.org and username is Wolf. Going to start hitting the ladders soon.

Artofinca - Thanks man
Every now and then I begin to think, whats the point of doing studies! This either means Im getting bored of them, or, Im not being challenged by them. I think rearranging my approach to them will solve both problems. This one was fun but old men are always fun.
Hazart - Moy! Youre totally right, and I expect soon the sketches and finished images will mold together better heh. I think what Ive been doing sometimes is just over rendering without thinking.
