EOW 126: Solstice Temple
A temple built especially around two specific days of the year - the Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice.
(Note: though the druids/celts are famous for this, don't feel limited to that era or culture!)
Evidence of use of temple to capture light of solstice days.

My first real try with environmentals so crit are more then welcome. This is the wip. Been reading up on it and found out that it was connected with astral signs but they moved sence back then so its new signs now. Picked a random one. Cancer. Have a old norse /viking'ish feeling to the houses.

Okay guys, sorry If I was vague! Here's what I mean by solstice.
Solstice refers to the longest and shortest days of the year respectively. The Summer solstice in the northern hemisphere is when the sun is highest in the sky (most towards the north), and thus the longest day of the year. The winter solstice in the northern hemisphere is when the sun is the lowest in the sky (most towards the south) and is thus the shortest day of the year.
Please don't get confused by the zodiac, that isn't what was meant. The solstice stands on it's own, though it was often used with the zodiac, which are made up of the constellations that the sun moves through. The reason they are linked is because they'll note which sign the sun is in for each solstice, not that they really have anything to do with eachother!
Alright. Sounds cool, but I want to make sure that I get the topic right.
This is a temple that is dedicated to the two solstices, that focuses on the light those events produce.
So does the temple have to be influenced by winter and summer, or just light in general?
Throwing my hat in the ring here. C+C always welcome.
This took me about an hour tonight. Still trying to figure out the burning situation on the right. I avoid adding people like its the plague, but it would be cool to have a gathering around a fire for the celebration.
i m fabricating the solstice temple in mohenjodaro civilization (no evidence that they ever had one) so will b doing imaginary stuff.....heres my initial sketch on this....just blocked the composition so far.....crit is welcome
Hello, i m new here
this is what i got so far, i am not sure if the composition and perspective works yet, critic welcome
@Arthur 'Two Sheds'
Are you certain that such a stream of light is possible, considering that the light is coming from pretty much everywhere?
Great entry's so far guys!
I see that the concept of the sun is taken very random, and this is good. Because I got no clue how to take on the sun/light part.
I got 2 versions, one normal without sun concept. 1 with the sun-celled-glass-energy-shields :p
Very crappy and I got a huge doubt about it
Please crit if you got some
Arthur - Thanks i really like the moody atmosphere in yours!
i started to paint over my sketch, im happy with the architecture but i am not sure about color and lighting, if anyone got an idea how to improve this tell me
Always been a huge fan of Clark Ashton Smith's three stories set on his version of Mars - 'Aihai' - and tried to incorporate the pink skies from the original NASA photos sent back from the first lander... before they figured out that the color correction was all wrong and they were actually blue. That's the way I remember it, anyway...
Arthur 'Two Sheds' great use of silhouette! I think it's nice, even if we don't know where the light comes from (you could add some light to the ground to make it more evident if it bugs you, then make the focused beam colored to set it apart).
rzp great start! (and the building design is very realistic)
I think I overworked it:
That's pretty cool revenebo, looks epic. Might I suggest introducing some other colors, perhaps red or purple, because right now it's almost monochromatic and that kind of makes it a bit dull. Also you could add an occasional blue or red to those people down there, they are barely visible. Cheers
Some uppdates. Maybe a bit to crowded.
Here is my WIP, i didn't know about this topic until today, its a good one. Luckily it's my day off so i whipped this up in the past 5ish hrs or so,i've been rendering left to right as you can see, i like it so far i think... Btw some awesome work coming already guys~!

How are you creating so much detail and straight lines? My hands are really shaky and its hard to use my Wacom pen to get great edges like you have. Also what methods are you using for brushes or either PS or Painter?
