Great work! There's something very appealing about the way you paint. So clean but so alive...
really great job.
square compositions (well seems more 4:3 but it's close enough) are always really hard but you did a good job because they are all working.
I know your secret! And I'll tell it right now: you have lots of corpses in your freezer, already in the poses you're using!!! Some day these corpses will end Crypt, and you'll have to finally begin drawing from memory! Hahahaha!!!... Your work is above the top my friend!! You deserve all you're getting, and I'm sure the best is yet to come!! Best wishes dude!!
These are different for me for sure; Warhammer has this quasi-cartoonish, stylized look and I really, really wanted to stay true to it so as to not piss off the fans, hee hee!
I think they came out alright, I did the best on them I could for the time constraints.
Im glad you think they look fresh and Im grateful you dig em!
I gotta admit I had a ball with that one; trying to communicate morbid humor is a guilty pleasure.
Ok...it was 100% guilt free.
I love to try and capture body language and expression probably most of all, I feel like its what makes connecting with the viewer emotionally a tangible possibility, and if you can do that then thats grabbing the holy grail IMHO, even if its just to give them a good, solid belly laugh.
Thanks oni, I love your reactions!
Besides theres only 2 brain cells left and the property value declines sharply next year when I hit the big 40.
Thanks for the compliments Mr Delish.
Thanks man im really grateful to have your approval, I know you like the franchise - so it means extra.
By the way, ive gone back to using reference more often, haha! Thought you might get a kick out of that fact =)
After really thinking about what you said I started employing it a little more and really enjoyed it again.
Thanks man - take it light.
When the fans of the IP approve it really feels great, thanks!
I like to think I have my own style and im really grateful people take the time to tell me they dig it, it keeps the fires lit and keeps me wanting to always improve.
I think the most important thing in all this is being teachable reguardless of ones personal style; because if nothing changes, then nothing changes.
Thanks for the kind words man!
Thanks very much for that interest, that really means more to me than you could imagine; I never dreamed id have things like that said to me when I was at the really low points; hungry, poor, not socializing a lot and not advancing much.
I make a point to remember those days so I dont ever start strutting around like my shit doesnt stink.
As for a streaming tutorial: a recorded one is far more likely.
I hope to make one sometime soon in the not too distant future, but the dream is to do it through this place and put it up for sale so its only available through this place, I want to contribute to keeping CAORG going because its done so much for me; it played a critical role in my life and art-life back around 2002.
A lot of what I do is from being self-taught and might very well conflict with what they are trying to promote through the school, so we'll just have to see.
Until then I can dream.
Thanks to all for taking the time and interest in my art!
God bless and draw, draw, DRAW you bastigez!
Dude-you're a bad ass-all your pieces here are solid, but I really like the 2 Ork ones, especailly the last one. WTF!? Good crits by the way, I was in some of the portfolio reviews with you.
Hi there I'm really impressed by what you do. I was so surprised to read during the portfolio review on monday that you're quite new to the business. When I looked at your work for the first time I was sure you are one of those veterans out there I'm just scared to witness what you'll become in the future...
Folks seem to have taken to that one more than I thought they would.
Getting compliments like that really are exciting to me!
No process shots for these, but a video tutorial is on the way and in the pipeline for late this year/early next year.
How I go about it is surprisingly mundane, I just do my best to capture light as accurately as I possibly can. Its all life drawing practice and drawing for 60+ hours a week - blood, sweat and tears buddy.
Thanks buddy, I really am grateful to have that effect for you, its what keeps me going; that feeling. I get it often by coming here and seeing all the talent exploding!
Awesome, im really grateful you got that retro feel with some of the work. Since im and old prick all my influences are the old sci-fi/horror/fantasy guys of the late 60's/70's and especially the 80's.
Thanks for the kind words man!
A step by step of sorts is coming: a video tutorial thats in the pipeline for early next year - im looking forward to it!
Thanks all for the support, interest and kindwords and critiques, it means a lot to me that you take the time!
God bless and best wishes,
Personally I only see what I could have done if I had more time, but we all go through that with deadlines.
Thanks for the compliments and for your sharp eye!
A video tutorial is in the works as we speak, ill have more information on that right after the new year.
Thanks all for the wonderful critiques and compliments, I really adore this place.
Heres some interior art I completed not too long ago for Fantasy Flight Games' Dark Heresy RPG.
Again; tight, tight deadline with a dual-approval process which made it tough to give it everything I would have liked, but it was really, really fun to work on this guy.
I got killed for time towards the end which is why his legs and shoes came out a little soupier and looser than I would have liked, but your eye still fills in a good bit.
It was also kind of refreshing to do just a static character shot, which is what the notes called for.
Content was right up my alley though: repulsive, demon-corrupted nobility teetering on the edge of insanity.

FUUUCK, Cryptcrawler illustrating WH40k!!
Wow, that gun hand is just insane. The figure is fantastic all around, but that hand is incredible!
Cryptcrawler, I don't just like the franchise. I work for GW on the writing end - novels and a few chapters on one of the WFRP adventures before FF took over - so we are blood brothers of a sort now. I am awed and honored to hear that I might have influenced you in any way, and I appreciate you letting me know. The end result remains staggering to say the least. Keep it up!
Yeah baby !
This one rocks, like a mix betwenn the arkhonen baron and a english lord.
It is not so easy to create an original version of a popular character.
I think you did it very well!!
The costume is really great and I really do appreciate his face!
Oh wow! You've topped it up a notch mate. This character is awesome! Nice one!
Concept Artist & Illustrator
very nice stuff and action captures! gj
One's humble Sketchbook
Saw this on dA, but going to repeat myself here too - great characterisation, and textural differentiation, plus you've nailed the WH40K feel. Lovely
Hurray, Warhammer Art!!! I love them all, it's vivid, it looks like 3D, great!
Work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one's watching
Thanks Ricardo, that means a lot to me.
Im looking forward to what you do in the future, I know you have the drive and fire to improve and succeed, that was extremely apparent during portfolio week, it was a pleasure to be there with you.
All the best,
Portfolio review week was really really fun, I learned a tremendous amount!
Im really flattered by your compliments, thanks!
But yeah, im pretty much one of the new kids, its been a great first year back in the bizz ( took a long hiatus to get a color portfolio up after doing interior artwork in greyscale for years.) and Im really looking forward to what the future holds.
For now im just going to stick to the grindstone and work my nuggets off.
Thanks so much, Id love to have my stuff be more in the realm of fine art but my love for lowbrow will only let me keep the old masters as a strong influence =D
But all I ever see is what could have been better, but I think thats a good thing.
Thanks jcpahl, im very glad you dig!
Hopefully ill get more opportunities to do character work, but for me to really fall in love there has to be a background and story.
I hope thats the case because I really love the monolithic, rich story thats at work in the warhammer universe - really fun stuff.
I appreciate you taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment, nathan; best wishes to you!
Deep, deep thanks to all for taking the time to leave a comment/crit etc the interest means a lot to me, its what means the most at days end.
Best wishes to all,
Seriously, you're one of my favorite artists without doubt. Love your style, the way you render is really nice. The warhammer pieces are awesome, especially the river trolls, but the last one is out of this world.
Keep up the fantastic work man!
EDIT: Btw, do you've any old drawings or sketches to share? If so, please send me a PM or something. That would be really awesome!
