Hey guys! Well, after spending hours browsing these forums I've finally decided to bite the bullet and join in. I'm pretty much in awe of so much of the work that gets posted here as well as the dedication people have to their art and their desire to improve. So, although it's intimidating I'm hoping that posting some of my own work and having pressure to keep updating will give me the kick up the butt that I need.
Ok, to start things off here's some stuff I've done recently. I was inspired to do the portraits after seeing Zhang Lu's work, used photo ref with a few of them. I hope to be able to draw people from imagination as well as he can one day...
Yeah... This guy's evil.
Aaaand some enviros. Hope to do some more of these soon, but with some looser custom brush action happening.
Ok, that's all for now. It's been a while since I showed anyone my work so I look forward to hearing what people think. Crits are very welcome.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Check out my Sketchbook! Critique and Criticism welcomed.

wow, that guy does have the potential of being such a evil sob! haha, as mentioned great start, look forward to more! BTW you have such a charming way with portraits!
pretty faces ('o'). keep at it!
spare some help at my Sketchbook thanks! Sketchbook
jigje: Thanks bud, with any luck it won't go all downhill from here.
ArtZealot: Cheers, I look forward to updating.
JMonsterDesign: Ha ha, yeah. He's not very nice. I can't take all the credit for the portraits though, I was trying to emulate Zang Lu's style to some extent. Thanks for the kind comment!
snoopalu: Thanks, I will!
Just a small update, some anatomy studies and some very quick little portraits of various people. I'll try to have something more interesting to post for next time!
Woooooooh! Pretty girls, creepy aliens and sweet textures! You have to keep posting! lets see some more color! I am feeling a little inspired to do some portraits.
Welcome to the forums! Being here will make you draw more-because all of us want to see more. Its like positive peer pressure!
Very nice work on those portraits!!!
What a way to start a sketchbook!
Sirkenneth: Glad you like it mate! More colour? But that's haaaarrrddd. Can't I just shut my eyes and hope that the colour pixies do it for me?
Chaser226: Glad you approve Mr Chase! I'm feeling inspired to do more figure studies after seeing your sketchbook.
AvisNocturna: Thanks Avis! Yeah the portraits were fun. I'll attempt some in colour a bit later.
luness: Cheers Luness! I want to do some creature concepts soon, hopefully they'll turn out half as badass as yours.
Small update! here's a sketch I've been working on for my first CHOW piece. Looks to be a fun one. Any feedback is much appreciated. Let me know if it's a bit too gruesome and I'll add some butterflies.
I love all the details, here and there, that let us know she's a killer prom queen. It is a sketch (an impressive one, btw) so I suppose you'll work a bit more on the blood stains (there are some brushes available online that you could modify a bit and use them for that).
While scrolling down one thing caught my attention and it was that under that dress, her legs seem to end in something similar to wood planks. Maybe because the lower part of the dress is defined with some straight lines on both sides. Adding some folding variation or just using more curves might help; but it's a personal thing. It looks fantastic just as the way it is right now.
Good job, cheers!!!
Man, your rendering is amazing.. and I really like the way you handle faces
The Prom Queen looks great, the killer spatula cracked me up

The Spaniard's Sketchbook... No holds barred
Your sketchbook looks really good! I especially love all the portrait studies. And it seems you have a grip on both people and environments, which is good. I'm really out of it with my environments, guess I should just practice! The blue water scenery has a nice, still and quiet atmosphere.
Great stuff so far, the portraits are excellent, Keep it up.
excellent sb so far.....
For the first 3 faces of the females, is that oil painting and then you scanned it, or pure digital painting?
I'm intrigued by these face paintings. Very unique style!
They're truly the highlight of this SB. Do more of those! Faces rock!

You´re pretty much doing what I´m doing, except I´m some steps behing you, could you look at this file I did, and give me a critique, I know you´ll understand where I want to go with this...
look at the last update, please. I´ll really appreciatte...
about your work I cna only say it´s great
This is amazing so far, I love those quick portraits and figure studies. Very inspirational. moar!
I love how well rendered each of your pictures are.
Just finished my first COW piece, so I figure it's a good time to get off my lazy ass and finally post some new stuff here! Thanks to everyone who posted comments since my last update.
Ok, first my COW "Merlin's familiar". I really enjoyed this one, I'm not much of a creature artist but it was great to do something different. I always like seeing people's original sketches so I'll post them here too, sorry about the messiness.
I haven't had much luck with CHOW yet, but here's a rough sketch and just a section of my piece for the "Seasons" CHOW that finished a few weeks ago, I chose to do Spring. Unfortunately my computer decided to die on me before I could complete it, but I'm planning to finish it off later when I get the time.
Finally, some random tree guy/thing/creature.
That's all for now. Unfortunately most of the stuff I've done recently has been for work and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it yet. Still got some pencil sketches and stuff to come though, so I'll post them here once I have them scanned. Thanks for looking!

Arthur 'Two Sheds' - Thanks Man! Ha ha, yeah maybe too clean, I need to loosen up a bit. No I didn't use ref for the pose but I probably should have...
cdejong - Thankyou! I don't get my facial ref from anywhere in particular, but I'm always sure to keep a lookout for images of faces that I find interesting when I'm randomly surfing the net. Google images is always useful if I see an actor or actress on tv who's face intrigues me for some reason. Is it just me or is there something a little creepy about having a collection of faces... I'm not a serial killer I swear.
Well, I've decided to go back to basics recently and concentrate on some things I've been struggling with. I've Been doing a lot of research into lighting and colour and I'm starting to realise just how limited the extent of my knowledge was on the subject. I'm feeling a lot more confident now so it's something I'm going to be experimenting with more in the near future. I Did some colour studies from movie caps recently, really fun to do! Also a couple of landscapes from photos. More to come later on for sure.
Thanks for looking!
That last one I'm having trouble telling if that last one is a photo or not lol
