The Making Of 'MAYA'

Hi!

In this sketchbook I want to show 'Making Of' stuff and concept art for my creator owned comic series 'MAYA' I'm developing in my spare time.

About me: I have worked on 'Tales from the Crypt' comics for Papercutz and did the first two issues of Bluewaters 'Ray Harryhausen Presents: It Came From Beneath The Sea... Again!', the comic sequel to the 1955 classic horror movie.
I'm the art director at Rough Sea Games (www.rough-sea.com) where I'm responsible for the art of a great game I can't tell you anything about yet

I have another sketchbook here where you can find Maya sketches and all my other stuff. This sketchbook here is meant for Maya related art only and it would be great if you guys can give me regular feedback on the art and characters I will show you.

More about the series you can read in an online interview here: Interview about MAYA at Jazmaonline.com

So let's start with some art...

Looks really nice man.

What's that font you used for the first page, the "You know a dream is like a river" one?

My only crit is that on Post#3's top pic, her breasts are really pointed, and don't look natural or attractive.

Only my opinion, the rest rocks.

Flesheater: Thank you! TopCow... I think you are right. I love a lot of TopCow books and started drawing as Marc Silvestri was doing the X-Men and later at Image his Cyberforce. His style can be seen in almost every TopCow book and because I liked his work so much I think you still can see his style in my art. Thx again! BTW: I think TopCow would be a perfect place for MAYA

Icedearth15876: Thank you very much! I hope so ... I love the story behind it and I hope readers will love it as much as I do. Sorry I can't tell much about the story yet... but I don't want to spoil it. Have you read the interview at Jazmaonline.com?

Xeno.: Thx! I am working with the Comiccraft font collection but can't tell you exactly what I used on this image. Normally I am working with the Jim Lee and the Astro City fonts a lot. Regarding the breasts in #3 you are totally right! I hear this a lot lately... especially from woman. Nonetheless I decided to not change it and go on with new stuff. In the end this is only the concept stuff and there can be some pointed breasts... ... but I try to avoid this kind of anatomy in the future! Promise!

Thx again!

Question:
Would you like to see MAYA in print or would you prefer a webcomic?

Best,

Chris

Maya color test

I have started with the sequentials yesterday and have finished the first page so far. Because I don't want to spoil anything you have to wait for some real art but I am trying to update the thread nonetheless with other art.

Here is a testpanel I did a while ago. I was playing with different color styles for the books. This panel will not appear in the book.

Let me know what you think, expect, want to see and so on

Just a small info update:

+ I am working on the sequentials in my spare time.
+ Right now I am finishing colors for the first pages.
+ I will pitch MAYA soon and because the pitch isn't complete yet showing new concept art will take a while.
+ Got some interest in MAYA from Hollywood already which feels surreal at this moment. I would love to see this on the small or big screen but first I have to finish the comic

Best,

Chris

The terrain on the test panel looks great, not just style but great in detail. Those are some cool news man, glad to hear the amount of work going on. I'd love to see the end result regardless

News update: I've sent out the pitch some days ago. Wish me luck
