Here's my propeller based around your method, the blades are very chunky because the smoove was crashing and hanged SU due to the spacing being too close so I spaced them out but ended up overdoing them. As for the rest I have no idea how you did the curved bolt plate or anything else really but I still had fun trying out your tutorial, cheers and keep'm coming!

Portus - It does take some practice and you have to be really careful with the terrain tool. Preselecting too much and sketchup will take an eternity to come back. I've never had it crash but it will hang for 30mins, which is just as bad.
I noticed on your second try you have a lot of hidden geometry on your edge. It has a much higher density compared to the surface of the prop. Next time try controlling that by either reducing the number of segments you are using on the arc tool or stretch the arcs out longer when creating the initial prop shape. Also when creating the profile with the follow me tool reduce the number of segments on the arc tool there as well. I think I only used 4 segments on the follow me part. Either way, I really like the shape of your second prop it came out really nice. I'll have to make a tutorial on the mounting plate. It was pretty easy but I forget sometimes and take that kind of stuff for granted. |

Oh yeah I abused the smoothing edges on that one. SU hangs on my PC when intersecting and the smoove is also quite intensive.
I also need to train the copy/rotate, there's a few youtube tutorials that I need to check again so that the props are distributed in equal angles. Looking forward to the mounting plates tutorial! In the mean time I'm going to try the wheel tutorial you made. |
