Beowulf step by step
A few people have asked me to post a step by step to show the method in which I work… I wish I could say I have a formula and predetermined method but I have to admit most of it is done by the “seat of my pants’. More reactive than proactive. I work in Painter 8 with brushes I’ve customized to suit my liking. If I have one word of advice it would be, “let the application work for you” not the other way around. What I mean is try to work in a traditional frame of mind and make Painter or Photoshop or whatever meet YOUR requirements. I hope this is somewhat helpful. I feel a little embarrassed talking about my work this way. Oh well.
Dan

Dan, you are one of my heroes on this site...
And no matter how much you slight yourself and your working process, which i think is stellar, you still produce awesome stuff.... |

- Awesome -
Mr. Milligan - This is great work!!! i like when people share there processes, ecspecially when the greats share
i have a question for you, when you made new layers did you create them on top of the previous one or is the order in this particular step by step varied. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us :p-Jesse

Glad everyone finds it useful. Thanks for the great compliments.
wednesday- about five hours on and off. mos667- the brushes i refer to are all digital tools in Painter 8. Most I've costumized to suit my style. J Mac- I don't have a set way of using layers. I use them when I need a certain feel to the paint. Sometimes that can be just one and on other pieces it can be several. In the end I flatten the image and paint into it. Thanks again everyone Dan
