Mike Manser - Insomniac Scratchings

Hello. I'm Mike. This is a small excerpt from my portfolio.

I specialise in technical drawings, mostly of buildings, vehicles, etc., but I started out drawing psychedelia and surreal colouring-book lineart (oh yes).

I'm seeking both inspiration and constructive criticism.

Cheers : D

Hey - Welcome to CA
Those drawings are a good start! If you have photoshop and a tablet, you could try coloring them.

And remember: regular updates

Interesting. Image 3, 4, and 5 of post one worked best for me, particularly number 3.

yo,
one of the strongest things u can do with an environment is to give it a real sense of depth and perspective. yours can tend to lack depth, try placing 'the viewer' in the scene more often. add extreme depth cues (something right next to the viewer) and try varying ur line weight to suggest the proximity of an object to the viewer.

for inspiration, well, i was blown away by the background in michael arias' anime film tekkon kinkreet ( http://www.eje-zeta.com/wp-content/u...nkinkreet2.jpg )
its an incredible viewing experience. the town the characters live in feels so alive just because of the backgrounds. if it appeals to u, u should check out the art books of the film.. one ofthem has black and white line drawings of the backgrounds and its mindblowing to see how painstakingly designed it all was. looks right up ur alley

http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1244139688
this feels like its getting somewhere cos i feel like im being placed in the scene

http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1244139561
this looks static and uninteresting. im too far away to care and the buildings are all so straight

peace
