pixelherder - back from the dead thread mkII

hellooooooo,

well back in the day i started off a sketchbook, but as these things sometimes do, it kind of eventually died.

in the intervening time i got sucked into "work" work and its only in the last few months i've been trying to rediscover a few things - like drawing and more importantly, enjoying it. For a long time the sight of a blank page (or screen) was enough to paralyse me from the neck down...

...so here's a collection of some speedpaints, doodles and whatnot that i've done since...erm, march i think. Theyre all done purely for my own amusement and as a way to wind down from the sort of stuff i do during the day

*edit* ,moved all images to second post

Cool pictures in here, you have a nice variety in style. My favs of this bunch would be Villain and eyetower, they've that extra je ne sais quoi, you know?

Lots of interesting shapes and ideas that stand out a bit. You do nice things with the colours you use but I think you'd be able to do even more if you varied your line width even more.

Wormhead is a favorite.

Here's some stuff from the past couple of weeks - nothing like a heatwave to inspire one's delusional thoughts...

This is the finished version of "Hidden Treasure"

Some speedpaint topics

"King Kong"

"Death and The Maiden"

"No face #1"

"No face #2" (sorry, but it just appeared in my sketchbook)

And FINALLY a whole bunch of random Sketchbook Stuff - i even WENT OUTDOORS!

And now, back to sweating, panting and heat-exhaustion.

Hehe, looked really good, but that last one was a direct "save target as...(to my collection of great art found of internet folder)" picture! And that's very good!

Like the humor!

So in the spirit of "internation portrait month" i thought i'd contribute something.

rendering it "old-school" with just paper, a pencil, a mirror and MY FACE would be more of a challenge than my usual photoshop based workflow

i spent an hour or so on this, there was only diffuse window lighting so the lack of strong modeling light was a bit of a hindrance.

i hope i can do a lot better than this in the future - must keep practicing!

So here's what i've been doing with myself this week...

"Vampire Hunter" - Speedpaint that took about 30 minutes

An illustration for a newsletter at work. Can't show it all yet, but here's the tiniest most miniscule sneek-peek

And finally, i got a fairly small (7inch) bust off ebay to do some studies with - and thats exactly what i ended up doing. A couple of hours and some graphite ended up producing this.
