Chow 161 :: The CITY

ROUND #161 :: The CITY
DESCRIPTION

The City

No it's not Environment of the week! Thanks to Zaxser for this suggestion.

This week we want you to take a city, anywhere in the world, your own, or another, and visualise it as a character. Present a city as a human personality, male or female it’s up to you. If possible try to avoid national costumes, and instead imagine how the city would look as a person.

Zaxser’s suggestions:

London is crying. It's just one of those days.

Paris is such a tease.

New York is a huge .

People think of Miami as a party girl, but she keeps her secrets well with an abyss of hidden depths.

Tokyo is incredibly obese, writhing and feeding. No one knows where she ends and her sisters begin.

Some people say everything is bigger in Dallas. Some people lie.

Since the flood, New Orleans just hasn't been the same.

New Amsterdam is the normal one in the family. What's their problem?

People keep saying a character can be a plant, an animal, an object, a place. All it needs is personality. Prove it. Present a city as a character.

You can still use those ones, they were just suggestions. And there are no dibs on any particular city. More versions of any particular one the merrier!

it's hard not to visualize a city as one of it's inhabitants. so much of a cities character comes from our view of it's people.

I think Im going to go more exaggerated cartoony Denver since I know most people are going to take the cool cities. Sports, Beer and drugs =P, ill stay away from the other evils of Denver, just too many of them LOL.

Brisbane City- Australia... heh ha!
'hey mate, got a smoke?'
'hey mate, gota dollar?'
2headed, inbred, meth-head is what I'm thinking...
...not that there aren't pretty places in brisbane...
...without 2headed, inbred, meth-heads...

Extra points if your character is actually dressed as a city.

Clever idea for a topic!

I'm tempted to do Essex but I don't think enough people would 'get it'. >_>

Wow, this is so tempting...If I do this it will probably be Philadelphia PA or my home town of Johnstown PA. J-town would be a bit easier since I know more about it but it could be a good one too.

I think I'll try New Songdo City, it would be an interesting challenge for me and I thought I could maybe incorporate tech into the character's body as it's being developed as a ubiquitous city. Would that be ok?

Nice challenge for this week...a little trickier but interesting nevertheless. Here's a super rough..Lady London...Lived there for a year and I got the impression of fast-paced modernity contradicted with old traditional values..lot's of old and new with a heaping serves of hip, arrogance and crankiness plus the lovely weather...I miss London.

First idea-

Prypiat (Ukrainian: При́п'ять, Pryp”jat’; Russian: При́пять, Pripjat’), or Pripyat, is an abandoned city in the zone of alienation in northern Ukraine, Kiev Oblast, near the border with Belarus. The city was founded in 1970 to house the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers, and was abandoned in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. Its population had been around 50,000 prior to the accident.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prypiat

I see 'her' as a cross between the cast of a Pompeii victim and rusting derelict industrial items sprouting weeds, frozen in a (hopefully) clearly 1980s sense of clothing (though I may opt for something a little more Soviet in style). Once lively and hot but now quarantined, alone and forgotten.

Bit of a downer... maybe I should have gone with Essex after all.
