Hello Everyone! I'm new here and excited to be part of the community! I wanted to post my thesis film that I created last year at Hampshire College. At Hampshire we define our own majors and spend our senior year working solely on a project created by combining our academic interests. This was my project that I created after studying animation (3D and 2D), illustration, storytelling, and performance. I tried to attach the video to this post but had some issues, so for now you can view the film and see some of my development sketches here:
sarah, great job on telling a story. so many students of animation miss this cornerstone. i also like how you kept unity in the piece, your backgrounds and characters all look like they belong in the same world. Your strong points are storytelling and the way you stage your shots, its very cinematic. I would encourage you to now focus on a shorter piece where you can focus more on the actual drawings and animation, i.e. timing, poses, etc...i see a lot of potential here.
Thank you very much for the crit! Learning to tell a unified story through moving images was definitely more of my focus for the year than the technical aspects of the animation itself. And I think you're right, my next step will be to focus on much smaller exercises that I can use to really hone in on a particular movement or scene.
