Sketch Mess: Simple line-art [comment hungry!] :D

Alright! NakedZergling and AvisNocturna [Thanks, guys!]
hinted that my border idea was a failure! XD So I've
remodeled the front page again, more OCD :"3 Everything
is separated again, I just toyed with the background and
took away negative spaces... Better????

Cow

Welcome. All of the linework looks good, consistent with the style. This may be a complete coincidence but the first thing I notice about the posts is that all of them, with the exception of the one with shackles, seem to be missing either legs or all of their lower body. If you are not confident with making legs, the best way to get over it is to make tons of legs. If this is a coincidence, disregard it, but if not try to get the whole character drawn out.

You also mentioned that you were going to start computer painting. When you do try to color with a non-white background. Try making it a neutral color, like light grey. This makes it a little easier to see color contrast since you don't have a screaming white background bombarding your eyes.

Looks good, keep up the work

Caught! I'm actually terrible at extremities period- but I didn't notice till now that all of them had no legs. XD
I appreciate the tips! I know I should try to work it out more, I just have to sit myself down and try not to draw faces all over the place.
I'm going to try the neutral bg idea out now, actually!

Really really cool shizz .

You line style reminds me a bit of studio 4c, and that by no means is a bad thing! http://www.studio4c.co.jp/english/

nothing wrong with being a "quick and messy sketcher", as long as your sketches are based on life studies and knowledge of the human form.

I think the 1st drawing is the most interesting to me...shows a more imaginative side to your drawings, and I think you should gravitate more towards that, rather than fanart, at least to flex your creative muscles.

@muzzoid:Thanks, man! I'm super flattered (I loved their part in Animatrix! :"D)

@LasandroG: Yeah, these are my newer sketches- a few of which somebody wanted me to draw for them, usually I'm a bit more creative (though I probably need more work expressing it, I'm sure) -most of the ones that I do without reference are pretty wacky, I'll try to load up some of those. Thanks for looking :>

I find the boarders you put around every post REALLY distracting. it keeps pulling my eye AWAY from the art.

Very nice sketches, dig your style!
But I have to agree with NakedZergling, the borders are kind of distracting.

Hmm, okay. Next time I post, I'll just do it normal. Thanks for the heads up! :)

Cow it's a bunny head, or is that a kangaroo?

Still looking pretty good. Glad you got some legs.

Lots of the poses seem to be fully extended (standing straight up, arm all the way out, leg all extended) not really too many bends. Try to show some strains and bends and capture a little more movement. Everything looks consistent yet it feels like I am more looking at a snapshot of somebody who is posing, rather than glimpsing at them while they are doing something. Which is fine but it is good to mix it up a little.

Hope that makes sense and helps. Keep it up, you're doing fine.

You're right :< Often, when I sketch out something, I don't take any risks with thier bodies because I have a lot of trouble with foreshortening. I think it might have a lot to do with not being able to draw 3d (know what I mean?) like, I think I'm sort of stuck without a lot of movement or balance unless it is derived from something I see.
SO I appreciate your tip! I just have to get over drawing safe and make some ugly art.

First attempt at layers!

10:34 PM May 6, 2009:
Quote:
It's been a few days! Well, I found someone (actually after r2thart's post, I was looking for odd poses- and found a girl who specialized in contortionist pictures- they are AMAZING!) and she had a tutorial on color- which involve a TON of layers- so I tried it out. This is in a series of states:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^sketch.mess.line.shoptricks^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Here's the reference photo:
Name: reference.jpg
Views: 75
Size: 128.1 KB
((NOT MINE! Isa real girl.. um.. I make it or take the picture or know the girl- nothing about this has anything to do with me-XD))

And here's the first sketch- I know they aren't that similar- but I wasn't really aiming on them looking too alike. :X I just liked her structure~ :X
Name: sketchblueeyes.jpg
Views: 51
Size: 199.9 KB

And here is the paint job:
Name: blye eyes.jpg
Views: 49
Size: 159.1 KB

It's my first try this way, so tell me what you think!! XD I'm a little stoked about it!!!
