This is my sketchbook. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I'll attempt to use this thread in the same way that I use my blog but for more rough work which, in theory, means that I'll be updating it much more often. We'll see...

Some pages from my moleskine...

Look who's back.

Icedearth15876 Cheers, much appreciated

Dannysketch Thanks man. My second post in a week, madness.

Wookiedabo Thanks for looking. I'll view your sketchbook as soon as my internet stops messing about.

More pages from the moleskine...

Work in progress for my character project. This one is a wraparound book cover. The guy's face looks stupid at the moment, but I'll sort it out...

The first is copied from 'The Fall' by Tarsem - one of my new favourite films, I highly recommend it. The second is from Band of Brothers, which is also genius...

Some stone busts...

Some studies of J.C Leyendecker...

That's all folks, thanks for the feedback

you have a ver strong sense of design and setting which show in your more stylised stuff. Your noses aren't very convincing though. With the placement of the base being the main issue i think.Have a quick looks at some facial structure writings. I use Loomis, alot use bridgman.

Nice stuff finny boi

Gotta agree with kyle's crit, your basic structure is slightly off on some of your faces, but that'll come with practice.

Leyendecker studies are lovely, that man was a god, you could always take a stab at oils?

Smarty Yeah, I think I can generally draw facial features ok, but getting them all to work together in a normal looking face is pretty hard! Haven't done any life drawing in ages, but getting an anatomy book ain't a bad substitute I guess. Cheers.

Dannysketch Thanks, that Leyendecker sure was one talented son of a gun. Try Oil painting? Never! Well, maybe... but me and painting go together like flies and honey.

One more spread.

DStrax Thank you.

ajvenema Thank you. Yeah I'm starting my Illustration degree in September. Quite exciting! As for the neatness, that's just a style choice. I usually don't like the messy stuff I do, and it invariably ends up getting rubbed out or binned.

TheButterBunny Thanks. Most of the moleskin stuff is from references, so its not that original, but I'm glad you like it

Here's another spread (values were added in Photoshop).

I was going for a Joao Ruas / Audrey Kawasaki look for the second one.

Bleugh.

I'm a little ashamed of myself for producing so little work these last few days. I sprained my ankle playing football on the weekend and spent a couple of days watching it swell up and go all sorts of colours. Despite my best efforts though, I can't use this to justify such latent behaviour on the art front. Some of this is new, and some of it is just stuff that has been sitting around waiting to be developed.

Another Leyendecker study. Pencil this time, not so adventurous...

Another tree. I don't usually like my looser drawings. You won't see many.

Reminiscent of the 'Stone Gardens' from the Edge Chronicles...

A self portrait.

One of the character pieces I have yet to develop. A long time ago I read 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coehlo, and to me this guy seems to represent one of the characters from the story. If I had a lightbox I'd enlarge this piece and tidy it up James Jean stylee, but I don't, so I'll have to find some other way of doing it.

-Finn Diesel out.

Gah dude I freaking love your designs and enviroments, you ever tempted to paint one of these up digitally?

Your characters and 'people' are prob your weakest front, the line quality lacks the same sort of confidence, originality and love that you give to your designs,

Take a rest on the ankle mate, those peasant dwellings wont invade themselves...

...

because your a viking...?

oh never mind

love that little true in your thumbnail, got me to click into your sb, haha

i particularly like the ones where you've cleaned up (or just laid down) really clean lines...kind of a lines man here. they do look a little stuff sometimes though - maybe starting out with some looser sketches might help? i dunno, just a thought

keep at it sir

A small post.

Dannysketch Thank you. I've shaken off my crutches at last, so Falmouth better watch out! Here's a digital environment piece for ya! - some generic spacey architecture. Average.

serhc Thanks for looking. At least the digital stuff stops me obsessing over linework! I'll keep that in mind about the looser stuff too. Cheers.

I really like that last enviro. I think it would be even better if you added some waves to the water (right now it gives a very static sensation, it could be sand from a desert instead of water) and some darker shadows on the tower in first term, to separate it more from the background. Anyway, nice work so far!
Keep it coming

DannySketch Gratzie!

Abrodos Thanks for the crits. If I decide to tighten up that piece I'll bear them in mind.

Here are some quick digital environments. Going mental with the palette knife brush

And an imagination sketch from the moleskine, don't ask me to explain it...

Worked in some tones on Photoshop. Garish use of colour I know. Will probably change it.

My scanner has been taken away from me, so future updates will be digital stuff for a while.

More quick landscapes. Only once I arranged them did I realise the compositions are all pretty much the same. Oh well...

keep up the good work

Grafguy Yeah, I wasn't really sure about those bricks either. Will put something else there if I continue to work on it. Thanks for looking!

I just found another landscape picture I did a while ago. Not great, but it kind of fits with the other stuff so I thought I'd put it up anyway...

I'm going to do more architectural environments from now on.

Hey man, thanks for the kind words on my SB! You've got some pretty awesome stuff as well. Just one suggestion. How about if you develop and finish some of your ideas and concepts. The talent is there but I think you're keeping it for yourself, haha, so share it

Cheers!

Wow, really amazing sketchbook! Some of your faces look a little weird in the eye/eyebrow areas, but everything else is awesome. I especially love these two:
