Talking Sketch Dumpage! Finally some improvement...I think (updated Nov 12)

Hi I'm Lindsay, and CA scares the crap out of me....so many giants and professionals on here! But I love it. I thought I'd join and see what I can learn (not to mention that there are so many drool-worthy sketchbooks and finished peices and contest entries out there that it blows my mind...). So I plan on lurking everywhere, and in between classes and tests and finals I hope to actually become helpful to somebody, strike up conversations, fangirl, learn, etc. XD

Talking Moar Sketchies

Aight, more sketches. I'd forgotten how much drawing can help blow off some serious steam.

Edit: And thanks Vayne

Hardly Working

This is my desk at my job in the Math Lab. Obviously there was next to no one in tonight so I had some time to myself. I'm hoping that I can finish this on Thursday night if it's slow.

Last post for today, I swear. I plan on finishing the hell out of this pic, but lately everything I do to it just... doesn't seem right. I'll figure it out eventually. =\

Daily Sketch Group

....Undead Farm Animals as a topic, how badass of an idea was that? Whoever suggested it/came up with it, I salute you.

For the record, I'm still working on this, but I had to stop and crop it since I'm out of time for the night... ah well, someday soon my horsey will have his body back >:F rararar

Smile Quick Sketchies! XD

Need to work on some poses, I haven't done any in a long time and I think that was always lacking for me anyways... did a few quick pose sketches from posemaniacs.com .

COW submission so far, topic: Six-legged steed from the future.

Any suggestions/thoughts welcome, I'm not sure about it yet.

I think your steed's legs should alternate evenly when it walks! Its front left leg should be down. Just a little practical thing I thought of... I was staring at it trying to figure out how it would work.

Your stuff looks good - your character sketches have interesting faces!

I really like your characters, they have some interesting crossing between cartoon and manga personality.
The coloring is somehow attracting.

Awesome drawings you've got here! I'll have to keep an eye on this thread, and maybe leave some comments with actual substance next time, hahah.

Talking

Thanks!

Kecky: Yeah I sat and stared myself for a long time, trying to picture just exactly how a six-legged thing would walk/run... I ended up just saying I'd figure out what the legs look like first and then go back and fix it. Totally agree, I'll fix it soon.

MuGen'arto: Thank you!

Edit:

thesilent: LOL you're a mysterious green banana and I'm a Green Jello Monster. Win. And thanks for the comment, substance or not

Sweet little sketchbook so far, Looks like you've got a nice handle on things, I would say your proportions could use a little work, but I'm already seeing improvement on your last posts as compared to your first ones. Lets see some more studies and figure drawings too!

I'm glad you think there's an improvement between the last ones and the first ones, because some of that stuff is old. ^^; But I agree, proportions are key and sometimes I can't get it into the lock lol. Thanks for the comment

Updating the COW

This is less than an hour's worth of coloring... Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to change the legs and agree there's something weird about the configuration, I didn't realize that the deadline for this week's COW is tomorrow .... soooo, I'm going to leave it and just work on what I've got. LOL I should have drawn it falling all over itself because it has too many legs!

@.@ still working. But feeling closer to finished... finished for the COW contest anyways, the deadline is tomorrow and I'm barely going to have time to work on it since I'm in school for 12 hours. Guess it depends on if the math lab is relatively empty when I work tomorrow evening. =)

Mmhmm, all the cool kids are green food substances!

Your steed has some serious strutting going on, there! Nice work. I love the little splashes of colour. He seems to have a lot of character.

[Ammm, excuse me]
I got to ask, what style is the Einstein painted in?
I can't figure it out. I've so many books to read on art, it's not funny
anymore. (They just keep piling up, self taught, trying anyway, too many pictures to look at and the words are turning into distractions. hehe)

The lines are awesome btw.
Hairy knuckles perhaps. [I don't see nipples?]
Colour- you could try slapping on textured layers and playing around with
blend settings.

Have fun with that futuristic goat.

dwardo: I'm not sure what you would call the style, I'm mostly self-taught myself and am not too in tune with Art History. I need to try and fix that at some point. and LOL hairy knuckles, I might play around with that. XD My friend keeps telling me to put a laser eye-socket on the "future-goat" but I can't bring myself to do that.

thesilent: Thanks again, and damn straight! You aint green food, you aint nuthin.

And I'm serious about the hairy knuckles. And you need to listen to your friend about the laser eye-socket. And I'm serious. No laser, no win.

I like the burning plane in the first post. The color is very dramatic!

And the Einstein picture is a bit like pop-art, i believe.. (compare )

Pop art, that's the one. (And) I hear pop artists don't listen to good advice sometimes. That's all I got to say to that. [Back to work]

If by good advice, you mean adding random lasers to things... well. lol, looks like I'm going to have to make a new creature soon that is rife with lasers, just to make some people happy.

OKAY, ALMOST done. I just need to add some shrubbery after this and clean up some small things and I should be ready to submit...

Edarneor: thanks! =)

Cow

Okay. I might change some things on this later but for now I'm calling it finished. I'm not sure that I can look at it again until something like a week passes.

After the Great Upheaval on Oord III, it became nearly impossible for human settlers to fuel their technological wonders, and thus they turned to the local fauna in the ways of the ancient Earth Tribes. Umghalé are hardy creatures, being found in the mountainous regions of the Eastern continent during the dry months, and making their way back to the flatlands as the rains descend from the pole. They use their claws to unearth insects, tubers, and small rodents, but will eat almost anything that they can chew.

Umghalé are highly intelligent and loyal, and need no fences once they have created a bond with a human. Old stories tell of mothers during the Second Egress who would tie the baskets of their infants onto the backs of Umghalé so that the babies would be soothed by the undulating gait, and thus not draw the attention of nearby predators. Umghalé can pull nearly five times their own weight, and can carry multiple humans on their backs.
