Cat in a Box - Felida's Sketchbook

Finally term break started. No I got one month and a half to develope my drawing skills like crazy It would be awesome, if you can help me with some contructiv critics.

A little bit about myself: My name' Kathi, I'm 20 years old and I'm from Germany. I currently study communication-design and I aim for becoming an illustrator. Beside this, I love to draw Comics so you'll see some WiPs of my Comic projects here, too.

First of all, I want to spam you with some of my actual drawings. I never limit myself on one drawing style or medium, so I just made a cross-section of my stuff.

This was a "self portrait" for my portfolio.

A project from school. The theme was Contemporary Adam and Eve. The original drawing size is 50x65cm. Took me a couple of hours to finish this drawing

For a drawing competition with the theme "Cherry blossom festival"

The singer and actor Nishikido Ryo, from photo.

Another piece for school. Theme was "Christmas tree ball in a strange surrounding"

The Illustration for some writing paper I designed as a present for a friend.

Another writing paper illustration. This time for my sister

And the third school piece. Theme "Something same or similar in an arrangement"

My first CHOW entry: "Supervillain self"

And because this here is called a "Sketch"book, some sketches
These were the sketches for a commission. My first attempt on Anthro characters D:

Thanks a lot for taking a look at my drawings

Wow, I got knocked down by color in the first ones!
Great images so far, I know what you meant with lifeless, yours are not.
No real constructive critics here, maybe to use some more discreet colors.
I´m still a beginner, so you have to wait for some experienced artist, to give you some more constructive advice.

Oh, and I miss some environments
I keep watching for more art.

btw, in welcher Stadt studierst du?

Yess~ no environments yet. That's definitely something I have to try (again... already tried to draw some but I was never satisfied).
And I'm a color freak. Should I write a warning in my thread's headline *laughs*?

@Towy & w84dem2go: Thanks a lot

I forgot to poste those guys yesterday

And here are some sketches I would appreciate CC
Forthe recent CHOW: Titania the Fairy Queen

And the first sketch for the final illustration

What do you think about the composition? Is the scene clear? Colors are still preally rough but do they fit?

Hey there, welcome to CA.org and thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

You have some beautiful pieces here. I particularly like the way you've illustrated the values on the elephant in your "christmassy" pic. Very appealing!

I think once you've shown us some gesture studies, more theory based images, then we'll be able to help you out even further with understanding anatomy etc.

Great use of different tonal varieties in each work, can't wait to see how this queen titania ends! As a suggestion, maybe increasing the contrast in the dogs one would help giving them more presence, as it's all based in the contrast between black and white spots.

Keep up the good work

You have a fun series of sketches and I can't wait to see more. I can tell you work quite a bit with watercolours, it translates well to your digital, particularly in your last sketch.

Time for an update
Thanks a lot for the nice comments.
BlightedArt: I really should do some more studies especially, when it comes to realistic anatomy *laughs*

I'm currently trying to organize my "old-silly-drawings"-box (It's a huge one. I hide everything in it that's older than half a year) and thought: Why not choosing some funny, old character designs and drawings, and redraw them?
I chose 3:

Fun Character design *laughs* I love the idea of the red skin. This drawing is around 6 years old.

Same color scheme. I think, I try to color it like the illustration for a superhero comic or something *__*

Next one:

This one's even older. Maybe 7 or 8 years (Haha... I'm so old)

I'll definitely change the colors. Like the lineart.

This one's around 4 years old. Horrible drawing style I don't know, what I thought. But I like the design of the coat a lot.

He changed a little bit ;D

Plus, a random Speedpaint:

Now I should work on my Titania, but my Labtop's a bitch D: Too slow to work properly, I really hope, I can fix that.

Bye bye
felida

Great updates!
This smoking, orange "thing" in post 6 is really cute.
I like the costume design of your Titania piece.
The facial expression of the fox is also very lovely.
You have a awesome style, very imaginative.
Keep it coming!

It's definitely time for a new entry. It's not that I'm too lazy to draw, I'm too lazy to scan my stuff and to upload everything

First, my entry for CHOW #148, E.G. Brownstone, P.I.

And the final coloration of one of my "old to new" drawings

areve: Thanks a lot for the nice comment I wish we would have some sunshine here, too. But at the moment, everything's grey and wet V__V may I ask, where you actually come from?

First try with Alchemy and that's what I made with this really odd programm:

And that's what I made with Photoshop out of it:

Odd as Alchemy *lol*

I love your stuff, the colors are lots of fun!

One crit though, especially if you are going to do comics, is you need to spend some time working on feet and how they work when interacting witht he ground. You seem to have arms and hands and upper bodies quite well and then your characters stand with splayed feet . . .

Studies! Lets see some feet studies!

I will be watching, keep it up ^^

Wow--- I'm really sorry for not posting for such a long time D: I worked hard on my Comic project and finished it in time (sadly, I can't show it yet) and now school started again ;__; So my next posts are probably filled with a lot of school stuff D: I hope, I can also work on some private drawings from time to time >:

First of all: I went figure drawing. Here are my two favorite drawings

I try to visit the voluntary figure drawing class this term as much as possible O:

Well, in drawing class, we started with skulls in every form and color *bored*
Here are the highlights:

I colored this one with pastel chalks and color pencils. Definitely one of my favorite coloration tool combinations.

This one is done with watercolor.

Ball-pen, blue color pencil and pink neon marker

Acrylic colors. I don't like working with opaque colors ;__;

And finally: A few Skribbels, we had to do in Visual communication class. We got some written instructions and tried to illustrate them without any references. Around 10 minutes each:

I hope you like it
bye bye
felida
