Some visual development art for a recent Sci-Fi project. Most of my experience is in Fantasy and Horror genres so this was a great learning experience. Inspiration came from Brian Yam. The guy is solid.
For a breakdown of my process in making the environment image, click here. I don't normally work with a b/w rendering/colorizing approach but I was in a bit of a time crunch.
Materials used: marker, marker paper, tech pens, photoshop w/ wacom tablet.
The process for creating the weapon:
1. rough marker sketch
2. line art in pen
3. drawing then scanned and cleaned up in photoshop
4. mono-chrome tonal render
5. color/variations brushed in
6. materials overlayed and finishing touches
The environment is great. Very war of the worlds like, except yours has a more interesting nemesis. Some corpse or fires on the ground could strengthen the "under attack" feeling in the piece.
The gun is also pretty cool. You have some cool designs in that thumbnail.
wow i like the monster one..great job. one the gun, i like the design but the handle and the back it seems too long, i mean is that the foreshorten of it seems off which makes it look bent. great job overall
To be the better me of yesterday
What is the purpose of the extra bit of metal sticking out from the bottom of the front of the gun? Be careful with a detail like that, unless it has some purpose like say the chainsaw in Gears of War, that kind of addition would only make the weapon bulkier for no reason and get in the way when firing within cover. Try turning that part into some kind of useful addition.
Cool. Thanks for the feedback.
Duman - agree, the ground does need some more elements to add interest
Supra - I'm glad you caught that. It was actually longer before, and I kept reworking it. Perspective drawing takes practice for sure.
Vert - I agree, it does add some bulk. I kept because the silhouette was cool, but yeah, it should be functional.
interesting weapon models its so tireing when time and time again the same models are used in almost every fps game, gd to see some people at least are doing something new. cool enviro too tho i agree about some added bodies or wreckage.
