Hello CA! After almost a year i came back to ConceptArt.org.. and started drawing again.. but it seems that nothing works... ive become pretty bad at drawing (not that ive been any good or anything..)
Nowadays im studying Graphical and audio-visual arts.. and soon im gonna try to enter some design institute here in Finland.. im aiming to become an industrial designer.
Theres soo much talented people here on CA.. i browse other peoples sketchbooks almost every day... its just so cool and inspiring to watch all that awesome art of yours.. maybe you could help me a bit.. tell what and most importantly HOW to improve... and what to do in order to get into the design institute 100%... I Really want to get there!
anyways.. heres some pages from the past few days.. im gonna upload more soon...
is there a way to set some kind of space between pictures?? its a bit annoying when theyr all attached to each other..

Hey, I have seen some of your car designs and I think you should try this. Get some of the Copic markers, with different grey gradation. The best ones could be the cool grey such as 10,30,50,70 etc. These markers are great for sketching any kind of a wehicle or an industrial design thing. Take a look at my sketchbook to see how I use them. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=140059 . Many industrial and concept artists use them as a quick tool. A pencil is good but only for life or study drawing. Not for quick vehicle sketching. Hope it helped. Tell me what you think or if you are going to buy some. Keep drawing.
Thanks for the comment.. I do have a 50% grey marker.. but only one (its getting old already..).. its the only one i could find in the radius of 15 km here in Finland.. i mean.. theres those sharp ones on eBay.. yeah.. but i need sorta like this fat marker https://www.ezorderschoolsupplies.co...%20Scented.JPG but even fatter! in order to quickly fill in shadows.. instead of filling with a sharp one, ending up with messy results..
ive checked your topic.. you do people 10x times better than me! damn.. seems like Everyone can draw people better than me.. and ive been trying to draw people for years! ive watched video tutorials, Andrew Loomis books, went to life drawing lessons, got good scores at art classes in school... but i still suck at people....
By the way.. where have yopu seen my stuff before..? I had a sketchbook topic here in CA like a year ago...
Remember to also check out my deviantart page!
Heres some more pages.. hmm.. i still dong get it.. how to put some space between the pictures so that they wont appear right next to each other..? its annoying.. and.. how to change the topic thumbnail picture?
damn.. i havent been on CA for a year.. i dont like the attachment manager-thingie at ALL!
Damn, that is some badass stuff you have there. Now, let's see how good you are with color.

Just keep at it man... don't let the road to the end get you down.. enjoy the road.. keep with the anatomy/head studies.. you are loose with your sketching, and that is a good thing.. just keep it up. it takes awhile.. basics may seem boring because they are, well, basic, but try to make yourself spend time on them. use photo references and manuals... you'll come along, I promise..
FightingSeraph: hahaha "Badass stuff"?? well.. Thank you! hehe.. By the way.... this is my SKETCHBOOK..... the Color stuff are here: http://dekus.deviantart.com/
carnal: well the funny thing is that i actually already did all that you said to do! ive real andrew loomis books.. ive read buncha anatomy books at school... ive drawn every muscle separately.... almost every bone.... drawn in cubical styles everything..... and guess what... still no results as you see.... drawing from a reference picture is.. well... somewhat easy... but i dont want that... i want to draw realistic/semi-realistic people from Nothing!! from scratch!... from imagination..........
Heres some new pages..

Heres some new pages.. plus a speedpainting
I still cant find any option to change the fukin topic thumbnail picture...
And how to put some space between the attached pictures??? damn this new attachment manager-thingie sucks..
And you say that you are bad at drawing? Riiiiight, u are just too hard on youself! Atleast i like your work, really nice!
Look, the title of this thread says a lot about you. You don't really think that you suck, but instead you try to gain the pitty side of people, so that they tell you how good you are. Let me tell you something: You were good in your school but not here. Here it's a new level, and you'll just have to make some effort to fit in.
Your anatomy is not good. You should make thousands of figures sticking close to the proportions. You should also draw heads in front, side, and 3/4 views a lot, just before jumping to heads leaning up and down, and up in 3/4 and down in 3/4. Also, practice hands, lot's of them in every position. Then integrate all.
Just AFTER that, you should jump to the muscles.
Your stuff on vehicles is good, not all of it, but most. Don't know were you're learning it from, but keep in that direction.
Good tone studies look nice, but they are tricky. People usually talks well of them, and it's a good way to avoid telling your self how you lack foundational drawing.
As I said, you're talented, but it's a bigger fishbowl here, and you're surrounded by guys that were the best at their schools too.
Try not to take this to hard, it's usually a pain to discover it for some people beggining. But the sooner you aknolowedge this, the sooner you'll start getting better, and perhaps one day you may even thank me.
JRStagg: ill try to do more..
Shad0w666: Well.. thank you.. im glad you like my stuff.. but.... i dont feel that im on the level where i would like to be... i mean.. i see things clearly in my head... but i cant draw them as i see them... i want to be able to draw like Mathias Verhasselt, Anrew Ley, Ryan Church.... and so on! I think that comparing to my age, im very left behind...
-naah.. i dont try anything... i really think that im not on the level i should be at this age...
- Shouldnt it be the other way..? first draw bones and muscles and then draw whole heads and body parts..?? I will study people more..
- About the cars.. i love cars and car design.. ive started to draw cars about hmm.... maybe 3 years ago.. at first they were boxes and strange amoeba shaped wheels.. but i got better... but it seems that i just cant get better on drawing people! thats why i made this thread..
Should i change the topic name..? maybe to something like: "Heres my stuff.. thats all.."?
I agree with Lennon. I could actually use that advice myself
And your stuff is good. Keep working and studying the people here and do live studies. Keep it up!
Please take the time to give me some constructive criticism in my Sketchbook
Hilbruks: yah.. ill try to listen to you guys..

Nice cars guns and all...but indeed for characters you got some problems sometimes, maybe you got to find your own style for drawing people, one that could match with the other stuff you draw.
Give us some chara of your creation and some usefull crits will come to solve this problem.
And a pistol concept for the graphic novel....
Google SketchUp, Photoshop, Wacom
new sketches i did on my nokia 5800
The Audi scene is an advance task for entering a design institute in Lahti.
The task was that a guy with two passengers, drives and as they make too much noise back there, he doesn't notice that hes speeding.. and a speed camera catches his car..
