This' been on the back-burner for quite some time now, could never get the base drawing down satisfactorily. It was always going to be a gift for a friend of mine but it's her birthday in a couple of days so that prompted me to finally get off my ass properly. 10-12 hours or so, all photoshop.
Enjoyed it immensely, which is always a good sign.
EDITED. for a bit of consistency, added some bits to the bird.
Done and printed now, quite happy with the physical results.

Ooo, it's a Pukeko. Nice! Sweet character.
Although I find it a bit hard to believe with that much light coming in from above that there is no light on the top of her head. That part is all kindvof lost in the black.
I really like her Amazon warrior proportions. The creature could use some type harness and the whole image deserves a background but now I'm just being greedy. Good Job.
HunterKiller - Yes! (I had to check, used to the more staid 'purple swamp-hen'). Thanks!
Bai Fan - yeah; it was intentional, that, but I think I didn't get the balance between stylisation and realism quite right; I think it would've been easier had I had a stronger base of linework to go from had I wanted it to work a little better.
MoonVisionStudio - I didn't want to give the bird any real harness-thing since I wanted the connection to be a bit less servile than that, but looking at it I think it does need some sort of detailing to tie them in a little bit. Thanks.
Sourgasm - Hehe. Thankyou.
Nice touch, I think she'll love it.
Well said. I agree.
the angle is fantastic, but I'd like to see some more light on her head, accentuate that hair a little. Great job!
Yeah, looking at it again the stylisation I was aiming for would've worked better had her hair been silhouetted against a paler background; anyway, it's been printed and finished (and she loved it ) so I won't be touching it up, just something to consider for next time.
