My Son, SIXMOREVODKA & serendipity (100+ new images)

Hey CA, hey friends....

It's been over a year since I posted my last thread in this section. So much stuff has happened since then, that I'm still amazed at how many experiences fit into just 365 days.
On the 16th of June our son Adrian was born, healthy, louder than his dad and a true character. For the past three months my wife and I have been watching him grow, poop, burp, laugh, cry, figure out how to put his fist into his mouth and many more things. So many things have changed since then, I crash before 11 pm from sheer exhaustion and wake up around 6 am, because Adrian want's to be carried around and entertained. Also this year, I decided to finally open up the SIXMOREVODKA Studio in Berlin. This has been a long plan of mine that is finally coming to fruition. I always felt the life of an artist or illustrator to be very lonesome, so the Studio is supposed to become an anchor for my social life and a headquater for future operations. Check the end of the post for some Photos.
Marvel still keeps me busy and I enjoy the working relationship more than ever. I found great friends along the editors and management and the work has brought me to a ton of strange places over the past year.
Since the New Zealand Workshop is approaching and I will be teaching there, I just want to use this thread to give you guys an idea of what to expect and to hopefully sign up if you have a chance.

But now, off to the art.

THOR

THOR: MAN OF WAR

THOR: AGES OF BLOOD

THOR: AGES OF THUNDER

GODSIZE THOR ANNUAL

While I was working on THOR, Marvel approached me with an idea for a Variant cover for one of their issues. The asked me to take the pencils of the regular penciller Oliver Coipel and paint it into a cover. They said I'd have free reign with the image, so I did what I could, played around and painted it up. This was a ton of fun and Olivier and I ended up becoming good friends during the process.
My Final:

Olivier's pencils:

This cover was a collaboration between me and the Inker Danny Miki. It was the first time I had my pencils inked by somebody else. When I got the finished inks back from him, I colored the piece digitally in PS.
THOR #7

THOR #8

I was fortunate enough to work on two issues of THOR for Marvel this year. This was the first time I had to complete an entire comicbook, something I failed doing while I was younger. This was a really outstanding experience, since the deadline was a turbocrunch and I had to work on something that I had never done before. The challenge was great and I completed the interiors for both books in 10 days each.
THOR #7

THOR #8

MAGNETO

This was one of the rare occasions where I was able to tackle some different non-superhero stuff. The Magneto mini-series basically tells the origin story of Magneto during the time of the Nazis. This was a great job that I enjoyed from start to finish.

DAREDEVIL

Still doing my duties on this series. I like the book and the character a lot, loads of moody stuff or graphic narration that one can use for the covers.

SECRET INVASION & MIGHTY AVENGERS

For the current summer event Secret Invasion I was assigned to recreate age old comic covers with a spin, featuring the main characters as parts of an alien race.
This must have been one of the weirdest jobs ever, since I had to go with the initial compositions and layouts that were kinda blocky and stiff.

Here are some examples of the covers I had to recreate....

I did a few interior flashback scenes for the MIGHTY AVENGERS books.

The last image for the One more Day storyline...
ONE MORE DAY #4

A Spider-Man Zombie Variant...my friend Kai Spannuth helped me out to get this one done on time....

WHAT-IF?

Similar to the collaboration I did with Olivier Coipel early this year, Marvel reapproached me for a few more of these.
The first oe is a collab between my very dear friend Cammo and me...again, he did the pencils, I threw the paint on top.

Same goes for this cover, done over Ron Garney's pencils...

A few intro pages from last years WHAT IF?: CIVIL WAR

INCREDIBLE HULK MOVIE CONCEPTS

Oh, and a few marketing concepts for the Hulk Movie. Those ended up to be too dark and gritty for the purpose, but I still like some part in them...

SKETCHES

And to round it up with a few sketches and thumbs for different projects. Some of this stuff was rejected but I felt like showing them cause the show some process...

Here are a few pics from my new studio, the place I hang out during the day now. There is still a lot to do, like putting prints on the wall and getting the neon sign ready for the front door. I'm also still waiting for my custom made drafting table... but it's cozy so far. I really love the fact that I have so many walk ins from the street throughout the day, kids, old people, pretty much everyone coming in wondering what this place is about. I would have never though people to be so receptive torwards comics, but if you take the time to explain them what you do and how it's done they are really appreciative. The studio is located at Chodowieckiestrasse 32, in 10405 Berlin...if you are around the corner, feel free to drop by....

And last but not least, the joy of my life. Adrian, the little barbarian. He was in such a good mood this morning, we had to take some fresh photos of him. He's 3 1/2 months now, has a heavy duty alarm scream that kills your ears and is a huge attention seeker. He's going to have a good life....

I hope you guys enjoyed the quick trip into my life and I guess I'll see a few of your faces pretty soon.
Some conventions & Workshops I'm attending to in the next 2 months:

ROMICS comic convention 2nd-5th October, ROME, ITALY
Ubisoft Workshop, 13-15th October in BUCHAREST, ROMANIA
SPIEL Game fair, 23rd-26th October in ESSEN, GERMANY
Wizard World con, 7th-9th November, DALLAS, TEXAS
Massive Black Workshop 13th-16th November WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND
Comic Expo, 28th-30th November in MADRID, SPAIN

See you all soon

Congrats on the baby! While I can't imagine what it's like to be making such art on a regular basis, I bet you feel more proud of being a dad? I know that's how I feel. I'm still waiting for all these pics to download, but if there's no drawing of your son, I hope to see some soon. As you can see in my avatar, mine's my favorite muse of late. There's a thread in the lounge called Humorous Moments, etc, and we've been posting alot about family and children. It'd be great if you shared some stories there.

Oh, and thank you very very much for sharing all this!!! I always learn a great deal from your work.

WOW! you sure do make up for a years worth of not posting!
Congratulations on having a child!( He even has his hair done like yours in a way!) One of the best things if not the best thing a person can experience.
Personally, I especially love the part when I look into my 3 year old son's eyes and for that moment, all the bullshit in the world just melts away.

And those thor pencils are mind blowingly good!
Respect to you and thanks for the inspiration!

( P.S. You are aware that we are all quaking in fear of your son's artistic abilities right? I mean, look how talented his parents are! )

It's nice to have stuff like the sixmorevodka studio happening closer to home instead of a gazillion, billion miles away on a small uninhabited part of another continent only reachable by sherpa or halo skydiving.

Hey Marko!
This is one massive update hehe, very interesting to look at. I've seen some of them before, stumbling upon them as I surf around.

Your art is looking good. Very nice use of colours and the compositions are tight as always. I'm surprised how some of them are very loose. Cool to see those go through to print as well and not only the tight renders.

Nice to see the steps of how you paint as well.

If i have to pick something I like the most I must say it's your compositions. They are very strong.

Congratulations on your kid! He's gorgeous! I had a kid as well, on September 7th this year.

Anyways, enough of asspats haha, you'll get tons more

cheers
