I'm currently looking for a Character Design/Concept Art Mentor.
I'm a 23 year old artist who graduated with a general arts degree (mostly focusing on portraits) but my love for costume design and my insane love of research led me to the magical world of concept art where I fell in love. I've thought about pursuing another degree, in Concept art emphasizing on character design, but alas I'm a poor starving artist so I've been trying to pick up what I can from Tutorials and tips on ConceptArt, etc. but I'm wandering in this forest of information and I think what I really need is someone to guide me.
I've taken all the core foundational art classes, with tons of focus in portraits, but I never got a chance to get even basic guidance in creating concept pieces. What I'd love is some help with creating well rounded character concept designs that are engaging, have interesting presentations, show personality and have a sense of mood. I also struggle in creating a series of characters that compliment eachother.
I've never taken a character design class (I have taken costume design) but I'm very dedicated to improving and excelling at this so guidance would be greatly appreciated. I can commit to between 7-10 hours a week so I'm willing to take challenging assignments and I am not afraid of critique! I wouldn't even consider requesting a mentor if I didn't plan to push myself to my limits, I won't waste your time. I'm just so glad to find that ConceptArt is encouraging this.
I don't have a ton of experience in Digital Painting but I learn best in the process so if you have an assignment for me, just include something you'd like me to do (like "use this technique") and I'll hash it out while I'm working.
Below are two pieces I'm currently working on, you can check out the rest of my sketchbook here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=135843
