House of foux du fafa

Hey guys, im new here. Here are some stuff that i have done within the last 3 months. Im currently learning to draw and paint from books, tutes and friends. I might be a girl but feel free to critique me as harsh as u want.

Bit of a big update here. I used ref for stuff like the hands studies and some of the more realistic faces. Those figure construction studies are from Vilppu's drawing tutes. So there is a mixture of life sketches, photo ref studies and stuff from my head.

Thank you for taking a look!

Here are some paintings that i have done for the past weeks. Ref used for most of them. Except for the demonish tattooed female character. I used my own hair as ref for the girl's portrait (with the red nose) and some other random images for her eyes and lips. The sea creatures thumbs are done with Zbrush (android's method). Which i find really helpful in designing organic stuff!

Anyway i think we can easily tell the difference when ref is used or not.. hehe. I know the paintings are incomplete.. because i have got feedbacks from friends and coldrum especially. I know they can be improved and fixed. I will definitely keep in mind of his suggestions and tips in my next painting. Thanks Jez! and rodimus!

I will like to improve and i will keep posting.

Wow I love your sketches and studies, great job on those!

As for the digital painting, try to do more with texture, everything right now is looking extremely smooth and it's making some of the clothes look almost plasticy, especially that one of the guy in the jacket. Don't be afraid to leave some brushwork showing and add a little texture to things.

But keep it up, I definitely want to see more!

hi! welcome! you should ask davi about the girl's "secret" forum access if you haven't already. there's some good threads there.

anywaaaays, lovin' your style. and great studies too. of the paintings you posted, i think the one with the girl and red bg is the weakest. it looks like its still a work in progress though. i suggest better shading on the clothes.

I like your sketches. Nice things going on. Your figure studies are convincing too!

If I was to give some criticism I would say work on the colours. Your B/W's are cool, but the use of colours are pretty flat and boring. I think of the shading for example.

This was a cool drawing, but I was bothered with the shadings on her knees, feet etc. It looks more like dust than values. Try using more colours than black when shading.

keep up the good sketching and take my critiques as love

i really like your coloured stuff- you have a vivid imagination and a neat style. however, your drawings are somewhat repetitive- almost all your characters are depicted en face, there are some profiles, but only a few. try some different angles of face and maybe some more dynamic positions

Fantastic sketches and beautiful colouring! The quality of your faces when viewed from the front is exceptional. Maybe your 3/4 view could do with a little work, use a sketchbook to try things out of your comfort zone maybe? Maybe mess a little with Loomis' head construction.

Really love your drawings though.

Thanks for the feedback! Will keep the suggestions in mind.
My printer/scanner had served me well for the past 5 years, RIP! Cant scan my sketchbook at the moment..

I just did a very quick ref picture painting. This time i took coldrum's advice in painting at 20% to 50% to get the basic shapes and colours in first.

I missed the soft sand..

gotta love the silouhettes and the lifedrawing studies!!! very good! though I must say that many of your faces do not have sooo much expression in them... maybe expression is not the right word.... character maybe... yeah! try not to make them look beautyful or done by the book.... for example sometimes someone can have biger eyes or mouth than it should be ... they can be still pretty but not perfect... that gives faces their character
thats my two cents on it

bye

The silhouettes are wonderful - the basic character is very clear, and it still throws the imagination in all directions. Your life drawing also rocks, with all the different approaches and styles.

maybe all I think I can critise is that there is not enough variety in the face expressions. but really I'm just being picky... so nevermind
