silverback gorilla sculpture - live webcam

Hello everyone,

Well I've been a busy bee. My website http://www.handsofcaesar.com/ is now streaming live as I sculpt my models. I am currently working on a silverback gorilla.

Gorilla's are such a fun subject. This is looking amazing. And pretty big too. What is it sculpted out of?

The clay/plasteline used is Chavant NSP Hard ... it is great for detail work

The gorilla measures roughly 15"h x 9"w x 12"d

Ears are a little weird like they seem to be added maybe more hairs around would hide this

and there is something with the chin and the mouth, you just drag a line, needs more details but i guess it's not finished

The fur is great and the anatomy looks great too

The gorilla still needs many corrections...

The ears still need to be detailed and possibly scaled; yes, the chin area is still rough. Good observation...

it looks good so far.. I remember the ref u showed me the gorilla looks ferocious and mean but right now it looks sad on the 2nd pic. It might be the camera angle altering the piece. Anyway it looks really good keep us updated!

Here are the latest images of the lowland mountain silverback gorilla. The focus is on the gorilla's face. I will revisit the face in a few days to see what other changes or details could be added

Thats some really amazing work! Im using the same clay for my project. Could you possibly who what you used to get the fur texture? Thanks!

On this project I used dental tools to obtain the fur texture. Hopefully the images I am about to post are clear. The tape or wax around the tools are just there for better gripping. My hands get cramps after holding on to the tools for hours with out breaks; therefore, I use the extra body around the tools.

in order to have the chat box work, you need to first register with justin.tv; then, login.

It looks great, but something about the mouth bothers me. I am not sure exactly what it is, it could be the curvature of the mouth and lips, maybe the curve in the line could be a little more pronounced . Also which species of gorilla is it? In one of your posts you labeled it as a “lowland mountain silverback gorilla” is it a mountain or lowland gorilla?

Your are correct, I may have to revisit the mouth area. As for the species... it is a lowland gorilla.
