You're making me proud here!
You're making me proud here!
a la bapsi - your wish is my command! IT IS FINISHED!!
Walid - I was kinda targetting weird, but i didnt want it to look "wrong"... hm! I might have to rethink my design, but not right now, got a deadline in 12 hours!
FightingSeraph - yessir!
MJ_Alcazar - how nice of you to drop by! thank you for the awsm compliments!
Slash - aww... ty
So here's the finished CHOW 12 FINALLY! i think i went blind from it! i tried the blur the non focus points technique, do tell me if it works or if i should just keep all of it sharp! my first done portfolio piece! 14 more to go T_T
Crits more than welcome btw, it's far from perfect!
thank you for the support everyone, you keep me motivated...
btw i cannot for the LIFE of me figure out how to stop photoshop from upping the contrast and losing detail when I "save for web" a jpeg... grr
Pix - thanks for the encouragement and nice words, it means a lot! I'll make sure to check loish out! ^^
Here's the other folio piece I was working on today. It took a while but i think it's done for now... the great fellows on IRC gave me some really good pointers, and I've noted them down for when im un-sick of this piece and it's time for a reworking! note: nose and stripey socks.
I like it! I'm noticing some small nitpicks that i'll discuss with you later. Noting major, just stuff that you could keep in mind when you pick this one back up!
I'm really proud of the work you've been doing today!
mmm.. long legs and small boobs, my type of girl! ... but seriously grate job! Perfectly renedered, because you haven't done it too much. Always have to leave a little something to the viewer to add (finish the picture) by her/his self!
Keep it up, looove to see more!!!
Slash - nitpick away!
congadingsda - haha thank you! it was a little rushed and the back foot needs fixing hmhm! :> will keep it up!
okay i finished my portfolio for SVA so i thought I'd show you guys bits of it you havent seen! applications are sent and my fingers are crossed! critique welcome! some of it is my graduation project, some of it is CHOW, the like...
ps: i mispelled Sacrifice... I hope SVA doesnt mug for that! D:
seen it all before, but i don't mind seeing it again! i love your litol characters! If i am to give one crit, i'd say the head of little punk ridinghood is a little oval. Basically i'd pull the face back a little, and keeping the rest as it is.
You rock!! Fantastic amazing and funny stuff here!
I have a sketchbook!
i really like your cute-Gothic-cell-shading style the most...but you're making some improvement here...i think you just need to study figure and anatomy more.thx for sharing and plz keep posting
ps. you can check endling work on the deviant for some inspirations about those toony macabre cell-shaded characters...he is really good at it
FUCK frustration...i'm comin baaaaaack
There's been a lot of terrific art posted here, and I feel terrible for not being a more active sketchbook support group member.
You're applying to SVA? Awesome! Wishing you the best of luck!
I can't quite put my finger on why, but I really dig the design of Morsure - the scarf, the dress, the ponytails, everything!
As far as crits go, just a general piece of advice whenever you are aiming for more representational kinds of art. Try to reserve your darkest darks (e.g. black) for accents, such as the pupils of the eyes or corners of the mouth in shadow. Reason being is that you can control where you want your viewer to look by a strategic placement of blacks.
Do everything you can to keep large areas from going full black, because too much can look harsh at times. I learned this the hard way. Chances are, even in deep shadow, there's some kind of color going on there, due to reflected and/or ambient light hitting it, so make sure you indicate that whenever you can. You've got the right idea with Tlaloc's Sacrifice; stay in that direction.
Keep it up!
ZOMG FOUR STARS?? thanks so much guys, I'll do my best not to disappoint anyone! ;-;
congadingsda - haha thanks man! I'm so glad you think so!
salman99 - thx, will do! ^^
Slash - that piece is 2 years old, ill just do better on the next I love your BIG charactors!
alicelefay - Thank you Alice!! you rock MORE!!
abr7man - anatomy studies coming up! thx for the crits and visit!
sfa - no worries man, I havent been that good either I'm gonna review my Mermaid and Queen of Hearts pieces wih your crits in mind as soon as I have a moment!
now for today's update;
I started a new sketchbook about 5 days ago, and my aim is to finish it by the End of February so I can send its as part of an application to a prestigious french school; this first batch is a bunch of studies; they are all from life except the first (imagination) and the poses are posemaniac 90 seconds poses, i'm rusty!!
ps: if you think you spot Aretha Franklin horribly disfigured in there, you're right... was sketching during the Inauguration. Sorry Miss Franklin!!
oh, and what do you guys do while in the loo? I personally draw it:
(from life lol)
next is some Imagination stuff to keep those design senses awake!
Children's illustration practice for eventual jobs:
A children's book I'm working on, based on a norwegian fairytale I loved; these are a double page thumbnail (meeting the princess), and a quick thumbnail + color distribution to see what kind of colors I want to use for the book..
And finally, my latest portfolio piece in progress; the Emo Harajuku Sadako!
phew. thats it for today folks! and thank goodness I didnt even scan out of my other sbs
ty for looking, I you!
DAyum thats a big update! You should keep doing posemaniacs, they expose your weaknesses and make you deal with them, which you are doing admirably! I also like that you're drawing more from life, observation of real life objects, even the mundane, will help you lots.
I'm proud of you!
I dig the last one!
I have a sketchbook!
Hey! Wow! I really think your character studies ( principia ? bagel ? darwina ?) all those up to this page are fantastic! i'm sure a bunch have mentioned but if you can spend some time each week drawing real humans from life your figures (the realistic ones) will leap forward.. you've got the skills .. now for the right practice! ( just one guy's opinion of course - discard or consider at your leisure!)
the blog will not leave me be: http://www.kevinwuesteart.blogspot.com
I have neglected my SSG long enough! Sorry!
You've been working hard! Congrats! The quick poses look great. That's something I really need to work on a lot more! The emo is looking great - i really want to see where you go with it. Good luck with the school!
UPDATE FFS! I *KNOW* you guys gotta be producin' sumtin' over there!
Hope ya'll are well!
alicelefay - thank you!!
kevinwueste - thank you for the great advice! I will continue practicing!
JailHouseRock2 - thanks Matt! I'm a fan of your work!
MarkWinters - you're back! yay!! I kinda neglected the emo, but I'll get right on it again!
dCepT - yessir fred sir! O.o
So here's my measly offering for today, but more to come soon enough! Im updating from work so i gotta be quick... o_o i got a full time job as a storyboard/2D artist at an advertising agency, so i sit on my ass and draw all day, it's really cool! unfortunately most of my work remains in the sketches (for storyboards) department, so i really gotta push myself to finish something!
Hope you guys enjoy, i spent forever noodling on her face. form imagination! ^^
Congrats on the job! The sketch is well drawn. Not sure what's going on with the color choices though. That gray is unflattering. Other than that nice job - keep 'em coming!
Heya Petite ! *bump*
Nice little cuteness here, the little cartoons characters are cool ! and congrats on the job !
Hey i hope you don't mind, i made this : http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...95#post2179695 ...
Well.. update !
Mark - I started the portrait in greyscale, then proceeded to slap some color, i left some spots empty in the process, dont ask me why tho ._.
Clo - dude! I love you for making that!!! and as per your instructions, here's today's update!
Cross posted in the Lounge thread! Sorknes!
EDIT: I drew an owl while at work and id like to share it with you... Im a bad kitty u_u
Boumeh = Owl in arabic, lebanese dialect

I saw the portraits in the original thread - great job! Challenge yourself to even out your values some. It's hard to suggest forms and give the impression of dimensionality without over-doing the highlights. Good luck you!
Oops, great art here. I like your style so much.
Those character designs are really cute. They are those pictures you'd want to make into toys and give to girl friend. Ha~~~~~
Slash - I love you
Mark Winters - yes sir! I think im reserving highlights from now on out!
Aaron Death - thank you! I do want to make toys out of them, and working towards that goal actually! should have a first series of toys around christmas... *crosses fingers*
Matte_Art - thanks Suppa Mario
Giorge - yes sir, that is indeed Adobe Illustrator! I can push the technique pretty far, and the program is quite fun, but it is very very time consuming... a full render of a characters easily takes double the time it would in photoshop, cuz i cnt sketch in it, i have to finish the character completely on paper then scan it and THEN I can start the render process... I attached an old character I made ages ago using that technique so you can see what it can look like
yes! your eyes do not deceive you, its an update!
fun character tiems and guess which one is my love? :p
then a collab for Team Chow that never saw fruition; behbeh painted the pose and I started designing the character on top: crits please! I wanna finish this!
self portrait I made as a portfolio piece:
then, and this I am very proud of for some reason, a random portrait portfolio piece, spawning from my obsession with Alice and wonderland.
This was post-James Kei download, and oh my god. I believe that was the most beneficial couple of hours of my life. I mean, I can't believe I did this myself, it feels like such a jump from previous efforts... I don't know. you be the judge, thank you James Kei, I owe you a beer if you're coming to the workshop, you got me out of my apathetic phase and back into wanting to get better!
