I used to think feedback was something you got from Sonic Youth...

Hi to everyone at Conceptart

I've been working on a number of images lately which I'd like to get some feedback on.

I've recently made the step into freelancing along with part-time work and study. I'm especially curious as to where my current skills sit in the professional landscape, because (like everyone here I assume) I'd like to make a serious living from what I love doing. So if you're feeling constructive, here's a few images that I've also posted at my flickr profile.

Cheers!

Nanite Trooper

Fae:Alien ambassador from the verdant dimensions (from a comic book project of mine).

Hellboy: animated in Lightwave from an online model

Steve on Mars: what else do you give an anthropologist scifi fan on his birthday?

Sewer King: another character from my comic book project.

Magus Andrew: Birthday card for my rpg-savvy Brother

The Grene Knight

Welcome to CA!

Im just gonna cut the soft bs and cut to the meat ...
you are relying too much on photoshop to do your pieces. an exceotional render starts at the drawing and its accented by the tools of the trade (color pigments, ps, etc) You need some classes on anatomy, color theory perspective etc.
pick up some books and get to studying, start a sketchbook to keep track of your progress and before you know it, you will be kicking some ass, srsly dude.

There are photo elements on almost all your pieces. and that contrasts with the painted portion greatly. either or brotha. Im not saying using pics is bad, not at all, just as long as you blend the delicate balance well. in your pics its, a photograph with a drawing on top of it. that doesnt sound very interesting and it doesnt look it either.

study and you will get far, you dont need a school, just a good book. send me a pm if you need a hand on choosing some books.

Hey JL - Cheers for the honest feed

Thanks Jl, and kudos on your work too. I checked out the portfolio links and you've got some mad stuff there.

I hear what you're saying and if you've got any fave texts that'd help just let me know. After all I'm taking my first public steps into this career, so advice is always appreciated.

Cheers!
