Evan's Broken Sanity
Well, I've been in love with the art in these sketchbooks for a while, and never really had the balls to put one together and stick to it before now, so what better time to start than January?
First post, why don't I just dump what I got on you guys? Wolverine Couple studies Unfinished Cable redesign Unfinished Super Pro redesign Last edited by JJ McKool; March 13th, 2009 at 11:07 PM.. |

I really like your hand/arm study. It looks like a tree or a tower almost, unfinished. I lack any real useful comments involving constructive criticism, but keep posting! I look forwards to seeing more. =)

Thinking of splashing some colour on this one, but I'm not sure how. Maybe something on the forehead-ish part, like an actual splash, uh, thingy?

Here's a bit of a useless dump. Sorry I haven't done better sketches, I've been researching English folklore and fashion. Oh, and the last pic's head appears to have met with a witch doctor of some sort. Cuz it's shrunken. Yeah. I'm sorry, that was terrible.

Does anybody know how to make it so the sketchbook page is a different colour? I noticed with some of the other sketchbooks, there seems to be an overlay of a colour, and I was wondering if you could add that in Painter X, or if that's just from using a colourscan. I can do that, but the colour is so distorted when using it, that it seems to be a problem for me.

Lovely stuff
Great anatomy exploration here, so I will just say what I always say when I see something being done right...Keep doing what your doing! ![]() Also, try doing more fast sketches that show a different diversity in style to these more cleaned versions maybe? Keep it up! Oh and I know in photoshop you can add overlay color to your work simply by going to the brush mode and selecting overlay...not so sure about painter but i am sure it can be done. |

Cool mutation action going on with molding those studies together. You can add color in Painter X and Photoshop. Sometimes whatever program you're using to scan the pic can edit HSB.

Saturns Gate: Thanks! I'll try some more fast sketching, I have to do quite a few studies over the next bit, so I'll try it on those.
Aniboomer: I'm lovin these sketchbooks, I keep seeing things, especially about anatomy, that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise. It's helping me out quite a bit. Matsign: Thanks, I'll fooll around with that a bit, any bit helps, I'm pretty much a lost puppy when it comes to that. Got a few more sketches here, couple preliminary character designs/studies and one I'm calling "The Scarecrow." Bet you can't guess why. |

don't worry if you think your sketches aren't perfect, they are sketches they aren't supposed to be, its all about the learning and practice....
I really like the woman on the sofa in the last pic

Not bad -- just keep working on the basics. Do some life-drawing if you can. Even just going to a coffee shop and drawing people helps tremendously. And read these books and do what they say. Keep it up!

On the first post of the thread, add a picture as an attachment onto the post and it will come up as the thumbnail.

Thanks, Osau, I'll see if it works after this post.
Start of an illustration for my portfolio, I don't know if I'll use this, or try something different with the pose/photo. |
