ive tried three times so far so hopefully this time it'll work. either that or there'll be three new threads with this same pic, if so i apologise.
this is one of my first 100% digital paintings. hope you like.
Whoa, that' is so kickass! Love the details on faces and the armor. That's pretty good for first time digital!
I think digital suits you Adrian. Nice work! The color palette is sickening...and I mean that in a good way. Was this a personal piece or was it for a client?

For your first full-on digital piece, that's pretty darn good.
A few crits: if the air is so thick with dust that it obfuscates the background that heavily, then you shouldn't be having a strong indication of light and shadow on the forground figure. The highlights should also be full of the yellow/orange light and less cool and white.
You usually find your darkest darks next to your brightest lights, so the dark spots on the figures receeding into the left (flail and the mouth of the guy with the shield) seem a little out of place.
Stuff like that is why so many people use numerous layers when painting digitally.
Looking forward to seeing your next piece!
It totally amazes me. Not only the great detail and characteristics. But I REALLY like the digital style. Looks almost identical to your traditional stuff! *claps*
What program are you using Adrian?
It's always a toss up when you have a detailed sketch - underpainting provides the bulk of the colour but overpainting can obliterate your sketch (especially if you are using your sketch on multiply/overlay in PS)
You might want to alter the colour of the multiply sketch to take off the 'black'
Sepian - photoshop/painter/artrage are just tools, like a pencil or a brush it's all down to the artist.
Man thats a badass painting! You remind me of games workshop and their artists.
EDIT: wait!! Adrian Smith? You ARE from games workshop! I remember ur name in a white dwarf magazine along with the front cover. You are badass.
however it seemes like u saved your picture as a jpg with like 3/12 quality. It looks like the whole picture has been ruined by u lowering the jpg quality.
Please go back and save it as a full quality jpg, and also reduce the size big time.
badass drawing and idea.
great image! and congratulations for the first completely digital piece!
but i'm curious if you have any better versions of the image, it seems this one was mabye blown up beyond it's threshold and those pesky jpeg pixel blocks are showing up!
well done though, well done!
it has a warhammer feel to it i like i very much keep it up and no chains can bind u
I dont know how painter works, but in photoshop when u save as a jpg it pops up a screen that has a bunch of options and one of them is a slider for jpeg quality to save the imagine in, the max being 12.
I love this painting. Technically it is very well done, good composition, and nice choice of colors. But it is the concept that I like the most. Looks like it was inspired by the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" on a number of levels.
Congratulations on a work well done!

Surprised to see you doing digital, but very nice mate! what got you into going digital? It's John Wigley by the way just incase you didn't know!
Congrats, Adrian! It seems that the transition from traditional to digital painting isn´t too hard for you. I tried Painter some months ago and I had a lot of interest on it, but finally I ended up going back to photoshop. I´d also recommed you Artrage, which is like the smaller version of Painter.
I don´t know if Painter has the option, but Photoshop allows you to "save for web" your files, with different quality, and it works quite ok for posting or uploading pictures. Of course, they´ll not look as good as the original, but the file size will be optimized.
Btw, very glad to see artist of your caliber posting here, like Karl Kopinski and yourself. Do you know the personal website of Paul Dainton? Couldn´t find it on google.
