thanx to JakkaS for the topic idea
1. A creature which collects skulls. The skulls can be of human or animals.
2. No Individual/Character!!!
I wasn't going to but. This sounds like fun.
Lenorekitty: If you're not doing the Pred. Can I?
My path of learning (sb)
Just curious about the rules......we have always beeen able to post wips as we progress so people can see us working and stuff....are we not allowed to do that anymore?
Art can explain whatever the mind of man himself can conceive.....
I believe you can still post your WIPs and discussion about the round here. There is a seperate thread now where everyone posts only their finals. Fozzy set it up just like CHoW that way.
Ive been thinking about why something might collect skulls...and I have a few ideas for smaller animals that might do it just because it might be a good nest or an obsessive habit...but I thought it would be interesting if the animal collected skulls because it cant digest them...as in it might puke up a pellet or bloblike owls tend to do that contains bones ...especially skulls..
..so yeah I started to doodle and I think I might do something that either resides in a cave or that lurks around the woods...I like the face ok...but the body isnt working for me..I think I might go look at deer or strange rodent animals for ideas....maybe even spiders...
Owls fit this topic perfectly. We dissected owl pellets in science class and mine had about 4 vole skulls. Luckily I got to take home a big bag of skulls n bones!
I'll probably at least draw something for this even if I don't do a final rendering. A fun part about this one is that you can be very creative with the actual skulls as well as the creature.
haha, skull regurgitator, nice one lenore!
I definitely am participating in this cow.
Danuh - Thankies! and you shoudld do it!
Jake Kobrin- I got to disect those owl pellets too! I loved thos things...the guy that makes those was on that Dirty Jobs show the other day...lol...
Scorge- Thanks so much Ill do more sketches later!
Lynus - glad to hear your in on this one...thanks!
Sounds cool Lenore.
Here's my WIP. I'm really struggling with incorporating a background that works. I've tried at least 3 so far. Right now it's just plain gray. And ya I know the foot is at a weird angle...
Jake, try it in a 3/4 perspective, usually profile can give the subject a flat look when painted onto a background. This might be your issue.
Fozz, this one is harder than I thought in terms of making a believable creature! still love the topic though!
Will start it today sometime.
Been a while since last I was in here As I got totally bored with what I was doing and felt like drawing something other than mechanical stuff, I decided to check what was going on in here.
This is what came out after like one hour or so. Once again I choose a bad angle of perspective I'm afraid...
This creature lives at bone yards where creatures of all kind go when they feel they're about to die, just like elephants do. It collects the skulls to live in, as a sort of shell. Also, since it's body consist mainly of soft tissue, it uses the teeth of the skulls as its own. It needs to replace them once in a while, so fresh skulls get attached to its body every now and again. Not sure if I find the time to finish this, but here is what I have at the moment
Edit: Updated my entry a bit. Added boils and stuff The skulls are giving me a headache though, bone is a bitch to render.

wow, yoitisi, that is so frickin cool! love it! the concept is so strong also, i mean how it uses the teeth as its own so it has to keep a fresh supply of spares on it's back...skull turtle
einen, i forgot to say that I liked the colors you are using alot, the lazy facial expression of the creatur is also very amusing
Well this is the CoW I have decided to participate in.... *gulp* As you can see my picture is in very early stages, I can't color very well...
It is a slimy creature that, obviously, uses tentacles to slither about stealing skulls from corpses and feeding off the calcium of the bone and using it for protection, much like a snail. They usually only lurk at night and are common anywhere there is a good supply of dead corpses such as grave yards and battle grounds... they are harmless to living creatures, more of a nuisance if anything...
I just wanted to give a shout out to Yoitisi. Your creature concept is ill in a good way =)
Lynus, Jake Cobrin, Nightblue, Lege1: Thanks for the positive reaction, I guess I'll have to finish it now
cool im in on this.. itll be my first.. but i think i get the picture.. ill scan up some sketches in a couple days... these are lookin good!
Quick doodle from today...still working out some kinks with the design and whatnot....below you can kind of see how exactly they collect skulls (and whatnot) ...by regurgitating things they cannot digest...although I think I might make his victims something a little more interesting rather than bats....or maybe not....blah
Einen - Beautiful work and great concept...I like the personality in your creature!
yoitisi- I like the concept alot...I had thought about camoflauge before....I cant wait to see where else you go with it!
Mooseish- I think the concept is pretty interesting....I like the calcium bit...keep working it out!
NightBlue - Interesting creature...kinda reminds me of a hedgehog..I look forward to see what you do with it!
Delmar - I love this drawing by itswlf...great gesture...I cant wai tto see what you come up with!
