i should've actually started one of these about a year ago when i first got the idea, but i didn't and so now a year later i guess i finally got around to it.

This'll be more technical ideation than anything else, i'm currently trying to work out my figure drawing and digital rendering but haven't gotten around to it. Expect a lot of pen sketches and machinery. I should definitely start drawing from reference more... imagining machines is hard HARD!

iMaiM: yup, you see correctly. That's an old ass sketch, haven't played that game for a while now.
ReCreate: My avatar is actually from an image i found, so it's nothing really special =[. I'm going to do a reference render of it later so you'll definitely see the full image when i get around to it.
Flipnastywebby: Thanks, you'll be seeing a lot more of me. I'm definitely focusing a lot on improving from the plateau i've been on for the last 2years.

Good start. I'd say work more on anatomy and observational stuff right now, it looks as if your vehicles are already outpacing your anatomical skillz. Though I must say, keep going with perspective, that's outstanding. I'm only just now learning the value of perspective, while putting everything else first
Unfortunately I'm still addicted...*sigh* let's not get into it!
I really like the Spiderfish concept, the thought and visuals you put in are good.
Rhineville: i'd have to agree. anatomy is my bane considering industrial design stresses objects and perspective so much. every day it's just: machine, machine, perspective, etc, etc... ggrrrrr.
iMaiM: thanks, it took me 2 years to break the addiction, and even still i check back on the forums to see what's up. hell sometimes i'm even tempted to .... let's just stop talking there k? heh.

my tablet didn't show up today, or yesterday because UPS shows up at the most ridiculous times ever so now i have to wait till monday or later. X.x. So here's some older stuff i did in inks and acrylic. A work similar to the first one ended up winning me $50 in an art competition back in '02. I still have yet to get a good scan/pic of it unfortunately.
hopefully this can tide some people over till i get some more impressive digital stuff going.
keep it up man, i think you could improve your level of design alot if you did some studies of animal skeletons. Its a great way to get a bias for understanding why creatures look the way they do, instead of just looking at the visuals of "how" they look.
i haven't updated recently, here's a couple things... mostly robots and death machines nothing really special. Currently working through a couple ideas for the IDW #48, we'll see how that pans out.
i just got painterX and a tablet so i've been having too much fun playing around in that.... i should really do some studies while i play with brushes now that i think about it. RIGHT THEN... i'll get right on that!
you got a thing for vehicles man. it seems to be one of your strong points, keep an eye on that!
adraude: yeah, machines are fun to draw. I'll probably go to a construction site and snap a bunch of snappy snappies when i get a bigger memory card for my camera.
playing around with brushes in painter, figured i'd crank through some stuff from reference. Looking at core shadows and forms.
Here's a taste, not too happy with the neck. Took me a while to get used to the differences over photoshop: 2hrs? give or take. Still working on my edge control, that's really sloppyjoe right now. I'll have more as the week progresses. I'm also going through loomis, expect lots of figures in the time to come. Hah.
Anyone know where to get some good textures for painter? I'm fresh out.

Good studies on painter. Keep pounding away at it... the 60 min one is probably the cleanest. Practicing your speed is good! Results are showing already.
More sketches from your book, too...keep this sucker updated.

hey mark - these are looking really good The value studies in painter are really quite good. If you want to improve on faces like you said I would suggest not trying to work on them along w/ the body within a meer 30 mins (heh seems rushed). Instead if your speeding along and trying to learn body anatomy I would ignore the face all together for these studies. To improve on faces you just have to do the same kinda thing, only with faces. A friend of mine told me to draw 50 heads in a week, and it really helped out my ability to construct faces. Keep at it dude - your vehicles rock.
speaking of which - do you go to / have you gone to art center? your work reminds me a ton of what they teach... that and you said you're in the bay area

iMaiM Thanks. Painter's a lot of fun but it's also a beast to learn and get used to. Yeah i've been stockpiling my pensketches... i was doing a lot of gestures so i figured i'd show them all at once.

Jabo Thanks for stopping by. I'm having a hard time finding good images of nudes with good lighting. Hopefully i get good enough at anatomy by the time i run out of images that i can start making it up as i go. HAH.
Soul Karl That's actually a good idea, probably once i get good enough at doing general anatomy i'll start breaking it down into pieces. Yanno the usual head, hands, feet, etc, etc, etc. I'm sure that's going to take me eons to punch through but i'll be fun. As for art college i actually go to San Jose State University (w00t! graduating in December!) one of the lesser known good art colleges. But my style is heavily influenced by Feng Zhu and Syd Mead so i guess you could say Art Center did have an influence on how i draw.

Sketchbook pages. Doing manikin gestures from loomis, working on my proportions, and doodling in class. Word to the wise: Business Ethics is teh boring.

those painter figure studies are beautiful! there're some perspective issues with your manikin gestures somehow, especially at the hips area, maybe horizontal guilde lines across the hips and shoulders might be helpful? either way, you have an excellent eye for form, and i'm sure you'll be rocking in no time, keep up the studies!
