Photography links, tuts, books, mgzines, exhibits etc...

Hey guys - I dont see a sticky up there with any photography resources, etc..
or maybe there is one and I missed it...

If not - I was wondering if we should start one where we can post links to sites on artists, journalists, magazines, upcoming exhibitions, books, tutorials, blogs...you name it

yes? no?

I suppose people have just made posts about matters of interest to them; no one's really bothered with a single designated place of miscellaneous bits and bobs.

Oh, what the hell, why not? If it doesn't get used we could always just unstick it again.

Rascar, want to start us off? Got anything of significance you might want to post?

have you heard of Steve McCurry? He's one of my favorite photo journalists.

Thanks guys -

well if you havent heard of McCurry you've probably seen at least one of his images!

Nachtway is probably one of my favorites too..that guy must have a guardian angel. He's come really close to eating it... one in South Africa when he was alongside 4 other photographers collectively named the "Bang Bang Club", and recently in Iraq when a grenade was thrown into the Hum-V he was in. The journalist with him lost an arm...

I recommend his DVD War Photographer..and book Inferno
You can also check up on him on www.viiphoto.com

also - look into the works/journals of Dan Eldon - an amazing life cut short by a brutal end in Mogadishu while he was shooting for Reuters.

I also have a tutorial request, if I may

I've heard in different places that you can make HDR type photos in photoshop with layers or something, just using one picture. I've always wondered how to do that! I want to be able to make awesome HDR pictures or even just to know how to make HDR pictures the "normal" way with more than one... Whenever I try messing around with it they always just turn out looking funky (I've only ever tried using photomatix [I think that's what it's called?])
