hi everyone!!! does it count if is made with painter+ photoshop.I do not intend to cheat .So, here is mine...
Great work everyone! Here`s my orange!
Ok, I updated the apple I did a while back. It looks nicer, but it could still be better.

@Blackpig: not bad at all! I love those soft pastel colors you chose. Personally I would like to see a bit more depth: shadow vs. light.
@Icecold: Good one (on the onion’s picture). The flask you painted is quite awesome! Amazing the way you’d interpreted textures of glass and metal.
@jessecrimson: well..i think you said it yourself…You need to have a reference and practice-practice-practice. Thought you have a basic understanding of shadow and light areas.
@Alexander-27: Those colors are killing me It’s like apple from another world…or poisonous apple. You need to work on color blocking, blending and texture. But nice beginning!
@Arepa: what is that? I would guess a red pepper? You need to work on the color blocking and blending technique. Also,I’m not sure what’s the your light source. Looks like the pepper was laying on some white surface, which reflects on the bottom… Keep posting!
@Wanna: I like it! Nice touch on that little sticky label
@MathiasDK: I think your banana have just enough details. Maybe some shadow on the background will help to make it more realistic.
@CarlSpringer: Well….that’s kind of….bad. Sorry. You need to practice to mix colors, make textures and work on the depth of the picture.
@CarlSpringer: not bad! I would like to see more shadow from the apple. Keep practicing, you’re on the right track
@Ulver: Sweet textures! Shadow is a bit destructing, but nice basic work on the round object!
@flip the master: I think it’s a good basic apple with the good blending and reflecting light.Would be nice to see more texture and more color depth (not the pink one thought)
thanks for the truth Yoruki ill keeping at it and the critizism is my type of motivation ill keep trying
Am I allowed to post my apple?
First time painting an apple...or..any still life really.
@TXF: Anyone's welcome to post here! I love your apple and ammount of details. Great colors! Nice work on the shadow of an apple and the shadow of that little wooden stick coming out of the top
@Peter Berkovski: great work on sketching and color blocking. I think by adding those yellow specks all over your apple you made it look a bit cartoonish.
I like the "bitten" apple better tought, relly nice work!
Well, might as well post this here. Any and all advice more than welcomed.
Was drawn based on this image
for some reason this looks mroe like a strawberry than an apple...
@dracken: well, it's not that bad! First of all you need practice. 2nd, why is your image all so blury? Maybe you should focus on first couple steps like blocking and blending. Leave the detail out of those first steps.
My second apple :-) Please give me some tips that i can do it better...i got a lot of problems with the structure...this apple dots..i go crazy^^ got someone an apple brush set ......
Hey, Disaster! It`s a very good apple! Great work on that textures.
This time I tried apples again:
Thanks Ulver...one question did you blend in with lower opacity or different solid colours?...and did you use texture brushes?...in my opinion its hard to create texture without a texture brush...and the right blending mode for that...multiply or overlay? i don't know......yours looking more juicy :-) n1 work!...next time i'll try an orange ;-)
hi cool people
love this thread here's my first apple
took alot of time getting the colors right and even when i was done i had to play with some levels
color adjusted and resized:
this was done with mouse but i plan on getting a tablet sometime!
edit: put some bg to up contrast
ok i promise thats the end of this post i am done playing with this apple!

Disaster -Thanks for kind words! Answering your question - I follow bumskee`s instructions and use solid colors for `block in` stage and then blend with different opacity, sometimes 10% and zoom 300%. I work in normal mode and use usual round brush without any texture brushes. But maybe I`ll try other modes next time!
Zain - Wow, man, that apple looks cool! Great work!
Hey thanks i do the same...maybe i blending too much.. i try it next time :-)...mainly i use custom brushes for painting with a lower pen pressure...and than with 50% opacity.
My very first attempt at painting in photoshop LOL. not so great

@Disaster: This is sick! Love it! Only thing i think you need to work on is a shadow. Your apple is very realistic, the texture is awesome! I use eather brush with twicked settings for those apple dots; or I make one dot and I use stamp tool)
@Ulver: i like how you used the fark background to emphasize your apples. I think apple on the left side is a bit to dark, the colors are a bit too dull comparing to the apple on the right side. Also looking at shadows (which are pretty good), i think your apple on the left also missing some reflecting light. Althought, apple on the right looks very realistic to me!
@Zain: this is SICK man! Love it!! Cannot even add anything, i'm speachless!
@Alpha Moth : not bad at all! I think you need to play a bit with the texture, otherwise colors are very nice!
Where can I read more on digital painting and so? Like you said, there isn't much texture and I'm not sure how to achieve that.
@Alpha Moth: well, I would personally google some "texture tutorial for Photoshop", however you can also play with different brushes (even default photoshop brushes give nice effects).
Mmm thanks, usually I use pretty simple brushes. Is there a set here that is good for most painting?
I think I need to block it a bit more and not so much blending, I was actually only playing around with blending and ended up that, I didn't really block it all. Maybe that was my problem? Anyway practice makes perfect, pretty happy for a first digital drawing.
@Alpha Moth: I think that Zain's apple is a very good demonstration of good color blocking. He also used "zoom"(as i understood) to texturize his apple, which seems to be alonger process then using textured brush, however he has nearly perfect apple in my opinion.
There's no 'perfec' set of brushes. It's up to he artists to choose her favorites. Personally, I always play it the default brushes before I try to change it to some customer rushes.
You're right, practice make it better. I personlly would like to try that "zoom" method of texturing, however I'm afraid i'm not that patient
It's been a really long time since I did anything art related, but I am trying to get back into it as much as possible. I wanted to post this here for crits. It's a short sketch, maybe 30-40 mins. of my Wacom Intuos3 pen holder.
Like I said, crit away. I really want the feedback so i can start getting better.
this was also my first time with CS4. I'm not familiar enough with photoshop as it is and now it gets more complex.
Hi, this is my first post here. I recently decided (for the nth time) to restart drawing and these are my first tries. I used photo references for both. Critics and comments are more than welcome.
Second attempt at an apple from life in photoshop =/ really crap at digital..

@crestfallen: very nice work! Colors, shadows and texture is perfect- personal opinion.
@Jamsey: well, you got the shape right, the stem looks good. COlor blocking seems to be very nicely done. Maybe a bit more bending? especially on the top with that greenish color. Otherwise, not bad at all!
First post, but been lurking since 2004 or 2005. I really just liked looking at the artwork posted here alot, and have seen the finished work of nearly every body. I went off and bought a bamboo wacom since the price was amazing, and this is my first image I've made with it.
Is there a thread that aids in setting up photoshop/tablet for ease of use?
good try for the irst time! I also use Bamboo tablet. All of my settins set somewhere on the middle(example is tip feel).
