Tabula Rasa storyboard

It's been some time since I've posted any boards. Well, here's the open cinematic for Tabula Rasa. John Mueller at NCSoft was kind enough to throw me the script and let me do my thing. Not too many like John. Then the super talented crew at Blur brought it to life. Any rate, the trailers out, looks amazing and well these are the boards

Great drama, energized suggestive rendering, great silhouettes, smart storytelling... Really enjoyed this post...

Dude, is there anything you're not apart of? This shit is insane. I love the way you told the story through black and white (though color would be digital senses overload). I hope to be just like you when I grow up.

Truly awesome stuff.

I have to ask a question. On page 9, in the sketch of the wormhole portal, the ellipses are really nicely drawn and i was wondering if they were freehand or if you have a secret to get really accurate ellipses.
I've been trying to get better at my ellipses in perspective for months now and refuse to use the ellipse tool in photoshop, is practice the only way to get those right?

Dan Milligan is the fastest storyboarder alive. It is said that he did the storyboards for every major hollywood picture for the next 40 years the last time he went to take a piss. He is so fast that he only goes digital, because the pencil would friction burn right through the table. He has Pam coating his tablet so it doesn't get burned. He is so fast, in fact, that he is even drawing this very post.

or so the quote goes I think?

this stuff's good no doubts. Do you get to design these concepts as well? or are they all handed to you from different artists? I feel some of the shapes are a bit unsharp, but Im not into the tabula rasa look so I'm no judge. Awesome tempo and mood throughout the board though.

nice.

How long time do you use to put down on a board?

Dan, before you fade off into the ether like some crazy angel from storyboarding heaven, when are you going to start a regular sketchbook again? I really miss seeing your work more frequently!

Great storyboard and great trailer (although some of the voice-over sounded a little cheesy). Steven Stahlberg's painting of the Sarah Morrison character is hot. I played Richard Garriott's Ultimas on the Apple II+ back in the eighties, and I'm going to try Tabula Rasa as well. It must be great to be involved with a game like this.

Awesome !
I'm always looking forward to your posts Dan

A19 is one of my favorite ones
It has a lot of flow and mass,
how the fish eye lens camera tells the story
one side vs another light vs dark
and the main focal closer to camera
that scene is gonna look sweet, I also
like how you draw hands

A10 is a nice one too and has great
sense of scale and depth

Damn is all good !!!!!!!

I was about to write you the other day, and ask that you post more work. I use you as constant inspiration for almost everything I create, and I can only look at your Beowulf images a few thousand more times!

Great boards, I love the flow of them. Also, a little bird told me that the guys at NC loved working with you. They had as many compliments about you as you've given them.

Great work.
