Hello!
Time for a sketchbook after quite some lurking. I enjoy drawing and I'm very keen on improving, so I'll update this thread with new artwork as often as possible. I do not attend to an art school, but I'm hoping I'm on the right track with practicing. I'll take any criticism, do not hesitate if you think you can help me improve! ![]() _____________ _ _ _ Here's the first batch! Most of the poses are done for the Spartan training camp (under Community Activities). The small ones are from head, I used books and posemaniac.com for the rest. |

New update!
Arm and shoulder anatomy. Hands are next. O_O
By the way; I use "anatomy drawing school" (András Szunyoghy, György Fehér) for reference. Although this one is a version (tekenlessen in de anatomie). Crits more than welcome! |

Nice studies - I feel that you have a strong sense of anatomy here. I suggest you try doing overlays using tracing paper to strengthen your anatomy further. For example create the bones in a separate layer on top of the figure drawing.

mmmmmm update
softocean; Thanks, seems like good advice. Tried it a little already. Seems logical to learn the underlying structure if you want to know the shapes and such.
Ellingsworth; Yap, really want to tackle anatomy. Or at least the basics. I really have to work for clean drawings though, they do tend to get messy ![]() StarbonesCoffin; I've heard of Loomis but I don't have it. I'm using anatomy drawing school for reference mainly. Blagsquid; Thanks! Well, I do need reference, can't do this from head (yet.. ). I switch between trying from head and using ref, hoping to see improvement that way. More finished stuff will come later I think, I'm just in the anatomy 'mood' for now, plus I think I need it. Already working on some digital stuff anyways. Here's new stuff; 50 quick poses for the Spartan Training Camp again. And those damn hands... the ones with bones are from ref, the others are my own left hand. They truly are a pain. Might try it again later on, don't feel I got the hang of it. Enjoy! I hope. __________________ Anthis' Sketchbook; http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=105027 |

Sweet! Another colourblind artist! Maybe we should start a club.
![]() Nice sketches, good progression on those studies. I'd like to see some originals in here too... Since you're already good at copying, it's hard to crit. Keep it up! |

Busy with college, hence the delay.
Whyatt Trash; Yea, I mainly wanted to practice my pencilwork in general, and practice anatomy. But yep, original work on it's way! And thank you. 3 digital sketches, topics from the daily sketch group. And foot studies for the spartan training from last week. I won't be posting the 50 figures because it takes ages to load. Here's the link though; http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=105592 More coming soon! __________________ Sketchbook; http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=105027 |

nice studies. in your arms you use parallel curves. try to do offset curves instead to get a more interest and natural form.
the last painting is a little dirt and dark.i think there is too much black in there. keep drawing |

DIMAGYAN; Think I see what you mean, I'll keep that in mind. I'm really after a flexible look but my anatomy does tend to get stiff. Thanks!
Here's an update. Anatomy studies done for the Spartan Training Camp (under community activities), and entries for the daily sketch group (approx 1.5-2hrs) |

Some stuff;
Constructing heads - used the Loomis method here. Heads are so tough -.- I picked up my copy of Bridgman's complete guide to drawing from life not too long ago. (hurray!) The bodies are my first practice using the book. And two Daily Sketch Group entries topics were - "robot ghosts", and "the dirt road tunneled right under the ancient tree's grarled roots" |

Hey man.
Got some great work going on. Thumbs up on the anatomy studies. Definitely get more of those Bridgeman studies in. Really analyze the figure in geometric shapes - a well constructed, solid figure will look great even if the anatomic details aren't there. The imaginative paintings are working nicely. I like the evil rats piece and the floating ship piece, especially. Watch out for the perspective though, the cannon barrels are a bit wonky. |

Hey, those figures are working amazingly well. Perhaps you sometimes make the heads a little to big, just at the first post mostly. Heads studies are also great, but it seems as you have to put more effort there, probably because perspective is more involved. If possible do more of those, so that you could achive better results faster and cleaner.
Also, about bridgman, there's a lot to learn from copying those. Be sure to analyze them as you draw rather than just copying them. Good work!

Sorry for the late response to some. I'll always thank and reply!
AmontilladoAg; Hehe most of the digital stuff is for the daily sketch group, you should check it out. Fun topics. The Curehead; Thanks! replied in your sb Osau; You should! UriL; Heh, working on the quality. Mostly concerned with basics at the moment.. ![]() HunterKiller_; Yep, Bridgman is great for learning. I'm no good at perspective yet.. will be spending some time on that soon... soon.. ;/ Slechtvalk; Thanks! love to make things look dynamic. Anatomy is holding me back for now, hope that will change in time. RipNroaR; Meh, long way to go still. However I don't mind practicing anatomy. You won't regret picking up the book! patdzon; Same here! I'll be watching you! We'll tackle anatomy. lennon; You hit the nail on the head, really. The heads take a lot of time and concentration, even getting a simple shape right in those sketches. Heads and hip/leg area are on the agenda. True thing about Bridgman too. I figured I'd start with copying, and deviate from his examples later on, once I get the basics under control. Don't want to keep copying forever ;/ Thanks to all! and here's a next batch. Bridgman stuff, along with two DSG entries; "MYSTERIOUS HOVERING ALIEN VESSEL IS LIKE AN ABSTRACT SCULPTURE", and "CYBER CORP. GROUNDS ARE PATROLLED BY MECHANIZED FU LIONS". I hate the spaceship thing, will be freeing up some time to practice perspective soon.

Wow! amazing work.. you study very well
I cant say much apart from you should practise colour much more, look into some colour theory and try doing colouring of simplified objects in different environments, and see if you can get the mood right. But I'm sure you are already working on that Thanks for the great post in my sb.. much appreciated.Keep at it |

Lots of studies = lots of praise. Keep at 'em.
I'd suggest studying atmospheric lighting some more. Also, light and shadow studies in black and white/greyscale can be a big help. Those studies are really cool, but it seems you don't depict human figures that much in your digital paintings. I'd love to see those studies put to good use in some paintings. I'm impressed by the amount of work you're uploading. Good job! ![]()

Bridgman is the MAN! You can pick all sorts of stuff from copying his drawings. Nothing much to crit really, but good job overall. I wish I could help you out with your colored pieces, but painting is one that I still need to learn.
![]() You might wanna think about your composition. For example on your abstract spaceship. It would help if you give a sense of how massive it is by scaling it to smaller elements, like people, buildings, etc. You could also change POV, like making it a worm's eye view to get the feeling of being puny. Basically, try to think of what you want the viewer to feel when looking at your images, and see how you would make that happen by making a nice composition. Keep it up! ![]() |

The Curehead; Nope, not a Zelda player. Thanks and np!
``Bea; True.. I'm pretty clueless there. I'm never doing any color practice anyways, should check around on the forums. Thanks anyways, think I'm still a bit of a slacker though. See you around! Hai!^^; Heya Anders. Yea, determined to keep a up the studies, got the feeling they're pretty helpful. Long way to go, especially considering the only studies I'm doing now are anatomy-related. I'll give the light/shadow tip a try. About the human figures; true, now that you mention it. Happens to be the nature of the Daily Sketch Group topics though. Thanks! TheBeast; Hey! True ;[ Got to free up some time for that. Although I don't have the same freedom when working digitally since I'm using a mouse. Environments coming soon.. I hope. See you around! patdzon; Yup! Bucketloads of Bridgman incoming. Hoping to get around doing some work "of my own" soon though.. Did try to achieve some sense of scale like you mentioned, failed there though. Still think its pretty tough. Some good suggestions though, thanks! Bit of a boring update.. ;o The digital one is a Daily Sketchgroup entry; topic was "Carnivorous Holiday Wreath" The rest are studies, mostly Bridgman.
