Consider my hat thrown in...
Update 7/07: Pleased where this is headed. I just hope I can finish in time.
The concept, as it stands, is of advance scouts working on newly-terraformed extrasolar colonies. Navigators are charged with plotting routes for supply convoys and scouting the terrain beyond the boundaries of the colony complexes. Navigators tend to work out lots of shortcuts, shaving off any extraneous travel, but if a crew has more than one navigator, a clash of egos is almost inevitable as both will insist upon the superiority of his or her favored trail.

hmm I just did a navigator for the "puppeteer" challenge. Guess I'll redo him as I wasn't very happy with how he turned out but I liked some of my ideas.
this mite be tuff as I always avoid drawing the male form..
count me in...
This time I wont be to eager to post my final, I learned that from my first CHOW waiting for polls. Full Characters this will be fun fun fun!
gtgauvin - What does "Consider my hat thrown in..." meen? Im guessing its like "IM F#&KING IN!!!"
Or is it the same as ,Thrown in the towel. If it is, then I Slap you in the face with my glove and call you yellow.
By the way. I slap everyone with my glove! And hope I wont get my ass kicked to hard.
B-Man, youve just issued me a challenge i cannot refuse! *slaps in return*
consider me in. im working a lot this week, and have my weekend booked out, but im gonna do my best.
just fleshing out the pose and anatomy of my male character. nothing really to show.. im trying, i really am, though work is making it difficult. since im at this stage and this is the most time im gonna have off work for the rest of the week, i think ill be missing the deadline. ill still continue on as if it were on schedule though. concept and backstory will follow soon.
heres an update with the basic linework for my female. i had no problem referencing the male (being one myself), but the female was another story entirely! i discovered that a little program i have, WoW Modeller, is pretty much perfect just to show a range of poses. the anatomy and proportions are a little wack, so obviously i only used it as a very loose guide, but nonetheless, check it out if you want something small, free, and with heaps of different races, armour, weapons and accessories.
this ones for you, B-Man! (someone's gotta keep you on your toes!)

I'm in, but you all don't know me so I guess that means very little to everyone :p I just figured this would be a great way for me to practice and learn.
“It is enough that we set out to mold the motley stuff of life into some form of our own choosing; when we do, the performance is itself the wage.”
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed." ~Albert Einstein
Seems like lots of people caught the sci-fi bug this week, myself included. ;-)
So very little time this week for me. Snuck in a few hours this morning (three hours, concept to completion) and this is what I came-up with. I wish I could have done a complete "painting" but since time didn't allow, I tried to do something a bit different with the linework. What personality there was in the line got destroyed when scaled-down, so I'm including a detail, as well.

I´m not happy with these, but here goes. I was debating between the 17th century or early 20th. I missed the Pirate thing, but finally went with the 20th.
The guy needs to be a mixture of James Bond, Indiana Jones and Niles from Angel. The glasses aren´t working. I think his torso is too short. I tried a duster coat, but he looked too cowboy. The telescope is driving me nuts. And he´s not sexy at all. At. all.
She´s supposed to be somewhere between Lara Croft and Kate Winslet. Too school marm-y. Heads to big. She´s got a map.
I wanted to give them both a Stutz Bearcat for background, but it´s too late for that to happen I think. And my wacom has been stuck in Spanish customs since Monday. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Coleb: If you play roleplaying games, you'll notice most books have classes which determine what kind of skills your character will have, usually with some kind of illustration.
Not sure if not knowing that makes you uncool. Quite the contrary...
Probably gonna sound like an idiots for asking, but whats props?
I think I am gonna try this...good practice!
props = items
DON'T CLICK THIS
wow I've had an idea for this before, I'm in, I always wanted to make a labyrinth/maze navigator. Hopefully I get it in on time and everything.
2 characters? we're really pushing this thread to the next level eh? That's awesome.
B-Man: What! slapping contest? You have dishonored my family, and the shaolin temple.
I'm down for the challenge. At least 2 props for each character, or for both characters?
B-Man- good lookin sketch there.
By the way, I'm having a real problem trying to get into these CHOW pages. I don't know if it's my internet connection, but it usually takes me 6 or 7 tries before I get in.
Hey, how's everyb...SMACK!!!...What the!? Who slapped me? Alright! It's on!!! (He said politely.)
Hey! I found some gauntlets on the floor! Cool! And someone started a drawing here too, it's only a line but it has promise.
B-Man Solid start out of the gate!
oohhh can i join? the topic sounds fun!!! i'll start doing my sketches right about....NOW!
Timothee: I've had the same problem, a pop up keeps asking me if I want to open the "showthread.php" file, instead of just opening the page. I've asked my web design friend about this, he says it has to be within the code, and I really get frustrated when after about 5 tries its not opening up, so please someone on CA fix this?
Sorry, rant into this thread.
The slowness/difficulty in getting the thread to open can be solved to some extent by browsing the forums while logged out. Just log in when you are actually going to post something (at which point you are already inside a thread).
Oi. Servers are fun when they post you twice.
Can it be any kind of navigation? Shamanic versus mechanic for instance.

B-Man: Is the sketch of a fantasy-type race? The proportions of the body are solid, but the head is too large. It seems like a halfling or hobbit or other such smallfolk. I'm curious becuase I want to approach this from a multi-race perspective.
Lets see if I can get something in this before the 8th. Le sigh.
2 dudes and 3 props hmm.
So you could have the intellectual male, the cleaning lady, a navigation machine, a table, and a duster?
Still playing with ideas, will post something real soon.
nightmare28- "so please someone on CA fix this?" -Word!
arttorney- thanks for the insight, i'll try it next time.
