--- LotusFleur's darwings in the wind --- [Some nude might pop in here!]
Hello artist!
I'm Danae and I've been drawing since I was a kiddo. I'd love to read what you have to say about my drawings. Comments, critiques, all welcome! Thanks for helping me grow! Last edited by LotusFleur; July 27th, 2009 at 08:04 AM.. Reason: let me introduce myself |

Hey there! I came back just yesterday and I have some quick sketches to post! Yey!
These are some hands that I did for practice. And here is my grandma enjoying her afternooon coffee. She is the best model I ever had. When I told her I was about to sketch her she didn't move a bit! So I don't have any excuses. ![]() The face isn't exactly as it supposed to be... I tried to follow what I was seeing but the result was so and so. ![]() And here is my boyfriend whose face was a major failure! I guess I find it kind of difficult to stick with somebody's face and expression when I'm doing a full body sketch in a short time. That's it for now! Cya! ![]() |

Nice life drawing! Try being a little more loose and flowing on the clothes. The shapes look blocky and confusing, think of them as wrapping around the form of the human anatomy.
Keep posting!! Good luck! ![]() |

Hello!
It's been a while since my last post cause I've been BUSY but now I'm working on a new painting. I want to make a print of this to give it as a present to my friend Katherine for her birthday. The picture shows her and her boyfriend as their characters for the online game lineage were. The reason for that is that they met due this game and now they are together. ![]() So... here is the line art. Wow! That took me sooo much time... I feel exhausted! ![]() Any comment appreciated though I don't know if I have the courage to make corrections! ![]() |

You're off to a good start, especially with all the life-drawing you're doing. I think you should put in some serious time studying anatomy and proportions. If you don't have Andrew Loomis' books, you can download them here -- they're some of the best books available on the subject of figure drawing. Pair them up with a good anatomy book, study hard, and you're set. Once you understand what you're looking at, your life-drawing will improve immensely. Keep it up!

I like the range of value that's present in your work! Sometimes it's hard for artists to push themselves and get darks in there. Don't lose that!
Keep up the great work and just remember: practice practice practice. A good anatomy book is helpful too. |

@ funfetus: This was useful information indeed. Thanks a lot for the advices! I need a lot of practice in anatomy for sure.
![]() @ Ms. Kitty: Thanks a lot for your kind words. I'm always trying to give the values of what I'm painting right but sometimes (as I'm often being told at my uni) I add value in too many spots ending up doing something that is the doesn't have a focus point. Aww well... I hope I'll correct that in time. As for the practice... it never stops! ---------------------------------- Here is a self portrait I did during the summer having a photo reference (...ok I used some imaginary elements too). It was done in photoshop. |

Id be proud of them sketches? Your doing what you need to do...studying the world around you...dont be afraid to do some quick gesture drawings, its really good for learning Form. I also like your fantasy pieces, try and get a nice balance between working on fantasy work and real life work...they go hand in hand.

Yeah you are definately off to a good start with all the drawing from life you are doing. Keep it up, don't lose interest in it! I can tell you from experience once you lose interest in doing them it's like breaking fingers to get yourself to do it again.
I agree with whats been said about doing some focused studies on anatomy and proportions. In a lot of these the hands and feet are way to small. Make sure you keep an eye out for that. And for the individual hand studies, something I personally have to do when doing studies of anything is draw whatever it is I'm drawing thicker otherwise it comes out flimsy. Your hands are getting a flimsy quality to them, most likely because of how thin they are and the way you handled the rendering. Pay attention to the planes on the hand. Each finger is like a long rectangle with joints in it, Try drawing it that way then refining it to a more rounded form. A strong start you have, keep up the progress.

@ Prophet: Thanks a lot for the encouragement and advices.
I try to keep the amount of practice and playing at equal levels but sometimes practice tires me I can't deny it! ![]() @ Aveh: Thanks for the advices I will try to follow them. I know what you mean about drawing from life... I get bored of it from time to time but I realize that is essential for my improvement. About the hand drawings, in three of them I used my hand for reference and I do have really thin fingers that don't help the situation but I got your point. Hands have always been a tricky part for me.------------------------------ Well this one is far from finished and I don't know when I will finish it cause these days I'm really busy doing other stuff for my university. The colors at the background is just a first idea to see how it goes and I will probably change some. Comments and advices about coloring are welcome. I used photoshop for this one and spent a lot time trying to figure out the colors and make the lighting work but every time I spent time on a painting it ends up looking sooo stiff. I hope I'll get over it eventually. |
