'm working on an article for a free gaming E-Zine called Sharkbytes
( http://www.sharkbytes.info/news.php )
I'd love to include some art for it, and was wondering if anyone would be up to the challange. The art I'm looking for would fit in Western, Horror, and Steampunk settings. If you'd like to join in, please post the pics or links to the pics for all to se here, or email them to me privatly.
The setup: An ambitious inventor has been traveling the west creating labor saving machines to help with rural tasks. He does this for free for teh joy of creating (though he hopes to sell his blue prints one day). Unfortunatly for him, he is haunted by an evil spirit that infests the inventors machines with demons when he moves on. The machine then takes on a life of it's own, causeing as much horror and fear as it can, as that is what the demons feed on.
Machine 1: The Thresher- a large steam powered thresher machine used to harvest and bail hay. it has a wide mouth and the front with whirling blades and claws for cutting down and pulling in the hay. it goes through a devies that compresses and bind the hay into a basic cube, and the bale is dropped out the back. the machine was intended to be driven by and operator, but now drives on it's own, seeking out farmers in their fields to pull in with the crops. when it "eats" a person in this way, the bloody hay bails take on unholy life as well.
Monster 1: Hell Bails- when they sit still the appear as simple hay bails, with a slight red tinge, and hide amongst regular bails. When they attack 9usually 3-4 at a time), stick like spidery legs emerge from the hay to move them about at suprising speed. the hail practically splits in half as it opens a gore filled mouth, with jagged shards of bone for teeth. They always make sure to leave gorey remains of the victime for someone to find.
Machine 2: The Tiller- a large steam driven earth tiller. the tractor like machine uses blades and drills in the front and un the underside to till fields and grind earth. The machine is self driving and stays within it's own fields, driving a mindless path. the owner of the machine murdered his wife and her lover and ground their bodies into the fields and has been getting good harvests since. the demons of the machine have driven him mad and compel him to put more bodies in the field.
Monster 2: Desecrated Earth- The soil of the fields, though fertile has been tainted with evil. humanoid masses of earth rise out of the field to kill those who snoop about and gather more human "fertilizer". Ground bone can be seen in these dirt men, especially in what would be the mouth. it has no other facial features. When the machine is attacked the field forms one large barn sized monster rather than several man sized monsters.
Machine 3: The Butcher- a fairly small machine compared to the others. it's a steam powered coridor of blades, claws, and pincers that butchers any animal that passes through. meat is collected and passed downa conveyor belt to an ice house, while the blood, skins, bones, and other waste is dropped through the floor grinder into a tunnel that leads to the incinerator. It was designed to not butcher anyone entering the device while wearing a certain magnetic band. Naturally it does anyway and can even use it's pincers to reach beyond the machine and pull workers in.
Monster 3: Vicera- not all the ground up butchering waste gets incinerated. some of the pulp of livestock and human comes to unholy life, taking the vague shape of a human being. these disgusting creatures lruk in the ice house when people are around but defend the machine if need be. They also keep the livestock coming into the machine when the machine has butchered the workers. the owner thinks his staff keeps running off, and that the machine is particularly effective, gathering all those extra chops...
