speedpaints environments

Each one was about 30 minutes-1hour, done in Photoshop CS2.

(updated b/c i forgot to include my most recent one, Snow Tree, this one was made when i sat in the background and layout class, they were learing to paint trees so i followed along =P)

Earlier Environment Paintings

These are from April I think.
No reference used for either, but i did become more careful about watching the forms in trees whenever i saw them.

Wow those enviroments are very nicely done.

The sketches in your first post really have a sense of distince form and volume to them. But some of your human anatomy has a bubbly and somewhat amorphous feel to it.

Im not an expert, but you might want to pay more attention to the contrast between hard areas (where bones lie just under the skin and help define shape) and soft areas where muscel and fat deforms according to gravity and pose.

Over all great work.. your understanding of space in your enviroments is quite masterful.

Rough Creature Paintings

Top is the character thumbnail sheet, humans, aliens, mutated animals!

See if you can spot the two creatures i decided to paint. I love silhouettes

The last one is from a character battle at school (my friend made a tiger so i spiffed up my character with all these tiger items)

Spiral, thank you and ill try to pay close attention to that, im currently doing studies on different body parts, arms and legs, and the muscles inside so hopefully it will make my anatomy more solid where it needs to be.

btw good catch on my anatomy troubles lol, and thank you for your comment on my environments.

Full Render Creatures

Starting from oldest to most recent.

These all took from anywhere from 5-8 hours, Not too much reference used, except for the slimy cliff jumper i referenced tree frogs. Done in Photoshop CS2, btw there are textures on all of them except Rabitz.

These all started out rough and took hours of rendering. I like the creating process more than the rendering, its more spontaneous, although the rendering, smoothing things out is pretty relaxing.

Form

painting male and female figure, in photoshop, each about 1hr. Relaxing to do and experimenting with custom brushes was fun, i made two rake-like brushes similar to the ones in Painter. I hardly know how to use painter but i really like that brush so i just had to try to get the same feel.

Streetlamp WIP

work in progress of an old thumbnail i did in my sketchbook. Used perspective to start, then detailed the lamp post(still more detailing to be done), worked on the colors to set the mood, and the next thing im going to do is either start working on the girl or reflective lighting on the objects.

Grayscale Paint

Just something i was working on today, it could have come out several different ways but im happy with it. Started in color but switched to grayscale. Its much easier to work with the values and give it depth. Influence from pirates of the carribean? perhaps...

i really like your drawing style in the first post, the figures are seriously funky lookin. ok, so i just really really truly love the rabbit. but hey, hes got flair. Not to put your digi paints in the shadows tho, theyre equally awesome, im just a sucker for tight pencil stuff.

Nice pencil work and sped paints. That last piece has a great weathered feel to it with the rain and blur effects on the light. Keep posting and keep up the good work.

Last updates are really nice, a lot of movement in there.

The only thing i would crit so far, is to get a little more into hand studies.
Maybe it´s incidental, but it looks like your trying to hide the hands in your pictures

Keep em coming!
