Pay for a graphic design poster??

Hi guys, i'm new to posting here.

I am wondering what are the basics that graphic designers get paid for their work.

What do i take into consideration when i have to negotiate my own price?

I am commisioned to do a poster unsure of the sizee it will be bigger than 11x17 probably more like 24 -40 inch rrange.

The style is along the lines of the designer "Josh Davis" .

if anyon can give me advice as to waht freelancers get paid or anything let me n know thanks!

Tyler

Well while size is a big part of the cost, also how big a distribution matters. I don't actually do posters so I can't give you an exact price just an overview.

If this is something they're going to be printing over and over and using as a main form of marketing for a long time, the price for the rights to the image should be higher.

Prices can vary from a few hundred for small flyers for an indie band to in the thousands but that's usually for an entire market brand, ie when England's BBC had all new logos designed it cost them over £50K for the services of the design group and rights to the images.

If they need all rights to the image, charge them more.

Remember cost in graphic design is not so much about the time it takes you, or cost of supplies, so much as the how it's going to be used, for how long, and with what rights. What you charge the store down the street versus a coporation for the same image will be vastly different. Pick up the Graphic Artists Guild Handbook for pricing tables and contract/invoice samples.
