Lightbulb Rock/Earth Creature - Critique & Ideas most welcome

Hi all,

At the moment I have been working on a concept for a rock elemental type creature. The original idea I had was that he should be made of stone with crystal formations for "hair" and be entwined with vines and leaves maybe have a few patches of moss growing in his rocky body.

I tried to get the anatomy down first, I can't see any glaring errors (maybe you can?). I wanted him to have big stompy feet and large smashy fists.

I resisted the urge to use the smudge tool in photoshop (a crime I have been guilty of in the past) because I thought by smudging him he would lose the rough rock type look. I also tried to build up the values by picking the colours myself and not using the easy option of dodge and burn (another crime I have been guilty of in the past).

He has got to the point now where I think I have gone as far as I can with him so please if you can see any mistakes or can think of any areas I can improve upon let me know.

Here he is...

Thank you for looking,

Rosie

Right now his anatomy is pretty clunky and stiff. But hey, he’s a guy made of rock… so maybe that isn’t a problem. If you wanted to make something with a more flowing look I’d suggest starting with the curvature of the spine. Look for the S curve that people have starting from the top of their head all the way down to the back of their heels.

Hope this helps
